Last night, my best friend [civil rights lawyer, a Black man] was held by cops after HE called 911, after being rear-ended.

They chained his hands and put him on the ground moments after arriving.

They threatened to charge HIM with a hit-and-run if he didn’t cooperate.
My friend is physically okay but obviously shaken up. He was on a date.
[This immediate reaction of so many to insist he “sue them!!” really misses the point and is disappointing, frankly.]
Yes, police can detain you [using handcuffs] for any violation of the law, even traffic violations.

That is the system y'all want to "reform."
Stop urging he sue. I mentioned my friend is a lawyer to imply he knows his rights.

Law suits do not bring about justice and they do not change behavior.

Police don't behave like they're afraid of being sued. Suing this dept [w/ no physical harm done] wouldn't do a damn thing.
Will tweet an update, as appropriate, when I receive one! Thanks to all for the kind wishes.
