That this ran yesterday in the Guardian is another data point for my suspicion that the scandal of ‘trans kids’ is now breaking, albeit in slow motion…
It’s also increasingly evident that having a mostly socialised healthcare system has been a major drag on efforts by the Meat Lego end of Big Pharma to reframe healthcare as a matter for self-actualisation and consumer choice
Not only is the US system (for example) more fragmented but the idea that healthcare is a matter for individual responsibility & choice makes it much more difficult to argue against elective medical interventions in the name of personal development / inner identity
The NHS, for all its flaws, does retain some sense that the community as a whole has a stake in collective health, and as such healthcare is not purely a matter for individualised inputs and outcomes as a consumer/‘service user’ but (at least a bit) a set of mutual obligations
It’s much harder to argue in that context that an individual should have an untrammelled right to privatise and endlessly modify their own physiology to accord with inner identity, or at least harder to argue that the community as a whole is obliged to bankroll it

All right-thinking conservatives must resist the retrograde possibility of parents exiting the job market to care for their own children
More seriously, when it feels no shame in saying the quiet anti-family part out loud like this it really is time to kick the cuckoo ideology of GDP growth and market worship out of the conservative nest
Excellent recent piece on just this theme by @herandrews for @AmerCompass…

All the outrage from the identity left about the stupid, racist working class refusing to recognise their best interests lie in voting Labour is just so mad and so circular.
The old left diverges in values from the identity left, so the ID left responds by doubling down on its moral framework and berating the old Left for being retrograde, racist, sexist, homophobic etc. As if insults were going to make the old left vote for them more.
In other words, their response to seeing that the old left doesn't share their worldview is to insult the old left for not sharing their worldview. But what if people don't even see your insults as insults any more? How do you imagine flinging them will make anyone like you more?

We aren’t all talking about the same thing when we mean ‘community’. When Corbyn and his ilk mention community they mean state-funded social infrastructure eg schools, libraries, swimming pools. Or they mean identitarian political blocs eg gay ppl or Muslims.
Thatcherite rightwingers mean (if they think of ‘community’ at all) embarrassing shitwork women do, like wiping the arses of old ppl and babies, that is inherently difficult to turn into a profit-making enterprise. Or they mean identitarian political blocs.
The thing about both these worldviews is that in neither one is the concept of ‘community’ threatened by population churn. Libraries persist whoever visits them (as long as still funded); care homes can be staffed by whoever. Identitarian voting blocs are strengthened by churn.
