President’s Rule has to be on the table. There is a reason Article 356 is in the Constitution of India. Yes SR Bommai is there to prevent arbitrary imposition- not any and all impositions.

So it has to be on the table. Power is meant to be used fairly but it is meant to be used.
But as @MNageswarRaoIPS has said it is better to consider starting with Article 355 and evaluate the response. The aim has to be to proceed life and property.

Even in American jurisprudence the concept of “incorporation” wrt states is there especially since Fourteenth Amendment.
Not just the BJP which is the primary target of course but even the CPM and INC are complaining of violence. Along with common people who did not have anything to do with politics beyond voting. Bengali exceptionalism is about something beautiful and ineffable, not this violence.
Dharna by political parties, especially nationwide during a pandemic won’t help.

But the most senior leaders coming to Bengal may help. More central forces for longer will help. And above all the clear communication about A355/356 being used constitutionally if needed will help.

Next few years we can focus on three spending areas (since we must prioritise) and have a longer fiscal consolidation plan.

- Social infra: Health insurance, public health

- Physical infra: Roads, water, real estate

- Military Keynesianism: Make in India especially for defense
The spin-offs or positive externalities for this will be immense. Along with global tech trends and econ reforms that have already been started and need to be carried out thoroughly. Even ignoring base effect this will help. Boost demand in a way that it boosts productivity also.
I deliberately did not put education in the list for now because that has a political economy problem of unions almost as difficult as the MSP paradox. For the time being we have to rely on diffusion of EdTech and some top down pedagogical changes.

Not forever but for now - yes.

This is a Big Lie indeed. Of those who get COVID, not just those who report +ive, 1 in 1000 (order of magnitude) die due to our young population. That does not assume perfect care. Plus vaccines. That puts a clear ceiling on deaths. 5x,10x+ cumulative all India deaths is Big Lie.
Check population pyramids of Kerala/UP based on 2011 census. Source: Google Images

This is in no way defending what any government has done. I am especially against criminalising any speech where citizens complain about shortages.

But 10x underreporting of total deaths? No way.
For adults, fatality does not rise in some smooth linear fashion with age. It rises exponentially. Hence, even a visual glance at population pyramids is not enough to appreciate the point. This is the same reason why say a Bangladesh also has low deaths even adjusting for errors.

If you do not respect wealth creators, wealth creation will not respect you.

The obsession with minutiae of pricing by opposition and judiciary - when all that matters is quantity (and when 80cr people are being given near free food) for just two shots that saves life is tragic.
Your single most important private sector tycoon for vaccines, and his company, had to be provided physical security round the clock and he still feels safer abroad when he should have been a leader at home now.

People can mock but if our productive elite secedes we will suffer.
People need to get a grip and get out of this despondency and blame game. There is ample time for that. We have elections every few months. We all have equal voices.

Can we for a change get behind those who are making vaccines and those policies which encourage them? Save lives.

Mamata Banerjee is not just CM of WB but also Health Minister. Until EC banned large gatherings she was campaigning. That is fine, there is an election. But she has been skipping COVID CM meetings. Why?

Lesser said about CM Uddhav Thackeray who sat over the epicentre the better.
The Chhattisgarh CM was doubting efficacy of Covaxin. How many lives are on his head?

Former UP CM said he will not take any “BJP” vaccine.

Who is going to hold INC, TMC, SS, NCP, SP and other parties responsible?

State and policing are health subjects. All anger against Modi?
Except US and Israel, most countries - including “developed” ones in continental Europe - are facing vaccine issues. We are doing quite OK in comparison.

Finally, we must ask what prevented so many 60+ and then 45+ from getting vaccinated when supply was not an issue relatively?
