Things @jkenney *should* say at his presser at 4:
"I've let Albertans down and I'm resigning."
"I should have been a better leader and held people accountable, including my own caucus for complying with our restrictions. I'm sorry."
#ableg #ResignKenney #covid19ab
"It was wrong to push our hospitals, healthcare, and essential workers to the breaking point in an effort to save the economy. Seeing that Alberta was the worst province in #cdnpoli for infections and economic decline last year has taught me that. I will do better."
#ableg
"We will be instituting the following measures to save lives, healthcare, and our economy;
•a stay at home order for all workplaces except grocery and pharmacy
•suspension of commercial rents and evictions
•working with banks to suspend mortgages for 6 weeks
•immediate prioritization of all essential workers for vaccinations
•working with Ottawa to increase CRB benefits to $3500/mo for all eligible non-essential workers for the next 8 weeks
•deploying available RCMP and military to enforce travel restrictions by health zone
•immediate escalation of fines for breaching PHOs to $3500 for a first offense, $10,000 for a second, and $25,000 for a third
•Border closures for all non-essential travelers in/out of the province.
•Work with CBSA to extend mandatory quarantine to 14 days"
What @jkenney WILL say at 4 pm:
"I reject any premise that I'm responsible for this mess."
"Ottawa doesn't do enough & should've had all Albertans vaccinated in Feb then we wouldn't have a third wave."
"I'm deeply disappointed that people are following my caucus' example."
"Here are the details of phase 3 vaccinations. Vaccinations are our only way out of this. And it's Trudeau's fault we don't have enough."
Why this is a problem:
We are getting ~310k vaccines a week here on out.
We are at 19.37% of all Albertans vaccinated with one dose (856k people).
Rough math it's gonna take us another 10 weeks with good uptake to really see infections decline even with public health measures.
If we allow unmitigated exponential spread between now and then, we aren't out of this until September, and we will lose thousands of Albertans and do an excruciating amount of economic damage that will take a decade to come out of.
And that's under ideal conditions... we are the most vaccine hesitant province, with a large contingent of our own government caucus undermining the vaccination effort and public health measures.
This is gonna get a lot worse if we don't get serious leadership ASAP.

Kenney's pugilistic approach may have played well with #ableg voters but it has alienated and isolated him from the allies he needs in Ottawa and in board rooms to get jobs, economy, and pipelines. What could he do differently? #cdnpoli
1) Rhetoric - treating climate change as some Euro-socialist conspiracy as oil producers, banks, and institutional investors have pulled financing has been detrimental to how serious people view Alberta and our climate performance.
2) Climate Leadership - removing the consumer carbon tax (which was replaced with an enhanced industrial emitters tax AND a federal consumer carbon tax) - sent a signal that Alberta didn't care about climate. Suspending Energy Efficiency Alberta further damaged our reputation.
