There's this weird trend of these "liberals can't admit it's over" stories. Except cases are still near last summer's peak, we're hitting a vaccine wall way too soon, there's still hot spots bubbling up even now, and a lot of the rest of the world is a variant incubator.
I don't think it's not wanting to get past this -- certainly I'm doing a lot more post vaccination -- I think it's a wary hesitation based on a year of people getting ahead of the conditions on the ground and spiking new waves of infection.
Are some people being more cautious than they need to be? Probably. Is it a reaction to a vast confederacy of idiots never showing any caution whatsoever? Most definitely.
Obviously more good news than bad in this country thankfully, but given there's ongoing efforts to scare people away from vaccines by our worst people, I'm not sure, "All clear!" is the most helpful message either.
At one point I had hoped that one good that would come out of this is we’d adopt wearing masks as a courtesy during flu season. Oh how naive I was.
I think I'm extra sensitive about this kind of trend story, because we all know that as normalcy creeps back in there will be a strong effort to deny it was all ever actually THAT BAD, just as they're currently doing with 1/6, painting it as a liberal overreaction.
The trend story that would actually be useful right now is how many people entering the hospital with Covid these days were vaccinated.
I think I’m automatically resentful of any take that ropes liberals into the “masks are a political statement” fiasco. We didn’t start that fire.

A lot of comedy and tragedy came out of the Trump administration, but Mike Pompeo swaggering out of that train wreck like he has big baller presidential energy might be both the most hilarious saddest thing of them all.
Still can't get over the cheek of throwing these gala dinners on the taxpayer dime to convince Washington you are a real playa. Image
Perfect font choice though, Mike. Image

They really are going to just lie their way through this.
By the way, this Mumbai native hasn't tweeted one thing in sympathy to the current situation in India.
His only acknowledgment of the unfolding catastrophe is this one bank shot at big tech.

Imagine what the current Fox News would have done if they were around when Detroit introduced seat belts.
Tucker Carlson would be suddenly doing segments where he drives around in a big old Buick, ranting about his freedom to launch through the windshield.
They’d highlight a case where someone drowned because they couldn’t get out of their seatbelt for a week.

A good example of the difference between Republicans and Democrats is look at the approval rating jump for killing Bin Laden versus ignoring warnings of his imminent attack. ImageImage
Trump could have really exploited Democrats willingness to rally round the president in a crisis if he showed a minimal level of competence and empathy last year.
It took two years for Bush's approval rating to go back to where it was on Sept 10th. Obama's modest bump evaporated by summer. And yet, Biden's ceiling being in the low 50's will be written about as a Democrat problem.

Aside from the obvious legal processes still playing out, you can't say, "We're just so ready to move on" when the guy who is inexplicably still calling the shots is talking at length about overturning the election at the Mar-a-Lago dinner show every evening.
Which of these Republicans who just want to forget all about January 6th has told Trump to forget about November 3rd?
Really curious if there's anyone in the Republican party with the backbone to try to tell Trump it's a bad look to keep rambling to the guests about how he actually won, when they go to Mar-a-Lago to beg him not to wish them into the cornfield.

So do the Democrats have a plan for when crazy Republican state legislatures follow Arizona's lead and concoct new election results to show "Trump actually won?" This feels like one of those things that can be both ridiculous and a massive headache. Like everything these days.
Given that more than 2/3rds of Republicans already think Biden isn't legitimately the President, that number would surely go up if Fox News runs with these bogus recounts. And why wouldn't they?
Personally, I feel like some indictments coming down would be a compelling counter narrative, but that's just me.
