The Saṅgam age is the period in the history of ancient Tamil Nadu (the present Tamilnadu, Kerala, parts of Andhra Pradesh, parts of Karnataka and northern Sri Lanka) spanning from 4th C.B.C to 2nd C.A.D.
According to Tamil legends there were three Saṅgam periods, viz., Thalai Saṅgam, Iḍai Saṅgam and Kaḍai Saṅgam. However the historians refer to only the Third Saṅgam or Kaḍai Saṅgam as the “Saṅgam period.”
Most of the available Saṅgam Literature are from third Saṅgam period. This collection contains 2381 poems in Tamil composed by 473 poets, some 102 of whom remain anonymous. Now let's discuss briefly abt sangam literatures.
(1) Tolkāppiyam:
The author of this text is Tolkāppiyar (2ndB.C).This text contains about 1610 verses/sūtras. The text is divided into three sections viz., Eḻuttadhigāram with 480 verses, Solladhigāram with 465 verses and Poruḷadhigāram with the remaining 665 verses.
2) Pattuppāṭṭu ( 10 songs ) :
Tirumurugāṟṟppaḍai, Porunarāṟṟuppaḍai, Ciṟupāṇāṟṟuppaḍai, Perumpāṇā-ṟṟuppaḍai, Mullaipāṭṭu, Maduraikāñci, Neḍunalvāḍai, Kuruñjippāṭṭu, Paṭṭi-ṉappālai and Malaipaḍu-kaḍām (also known as Kūttarāṟṟuppaḍai)
Out of these, 5 are sung in the form of Āṟṟuppaḍai. This is a form of poetry where one poet suggests another poet, who he meets on the way to go to a certain noble man & sing his poetry to get rewarded. Of these, the Thirumurugatrupadai ( praising Murugan ) is an exception.
(3) Eṭṭuttogai: The Eṭṭuttogai texts are: Naṟṟiṇai, Kuṟunthogai, Aiṅkuṟunūṟu, Paripāḍal, Kalittogai, Aganāṉūṟu, Padiṟṟuppattu and Puṟanāṉūṟu. These texts are compilations of song sung by different poets over a period of time in the Agam and Puṟam genres.
(4) Patinen-kil-kanaku :
These are known as 18 lesser texts, mostly created during post sangam period ( 100-500ce ). Among them the most famous one is TIRUKURAL.
There is a saying, " what God said to man is " Bhagavad Gita ", What man said to God is " Thiruvasagam " and what man said to man is " Thirukkural ".
In the next part, we will see how vedic culture is deeply reflected in Sangam literatures ! 🙏❣️
Ppl who defend "Sati" proclaiming it as a "Voluntary act" done by the women are no different from Muslim extremists who blow themselves to kill other ppl as a "voluntary act" for the jihad, since both have divine sanctions from the scriptures.
So don't bring this idiotic argument as "sati" as some holy act done by women. No sane person in this world will try to jump in the fire or kill themselves unless it's for some higher cause of saving the family, nation or anything related to that.
If women have performed sati in the past, it's solely bcoz they have been "brainwashed" to such an extent to believe sati as some divine act and glorifying them as heroes, same method used by jihadis to justify the act of terrorism in the name of scriptures !
I'm seeing a lot of hatred towards bhagavan Rama in the Tamilnadu social media grps after RRR movie, claiming that Ram worship isn't here and this is Periyar land blah blah ! I mean seriously, this ppl haven't read anything related to Tamil scriptures nor knew abt Tamil culture !
To be honest, bhagavan Rama is the most pan-india god right from the ancient times..ppl from TN worshipped him with pure devotion and most of them had their names started with "Ram". ( Irony is the so called Periyar's name starts with "Rama" 😂😷 )
Even the great siddhars like sivavaakiyar preached the importance of Rama jebam proclaiming that chanting lord Ram's name will snuff out any kind of sins humans have committed. He has dedicated many songs to the worship of bhagvan Rama, even though himself being a shaiva !
I'm not coming into this birth or karmic Varna theories..but if u r gonna compare it with scientific facts better know something before blabbering abt it..Organ transplant is done with the help of HLA typing, which doesn't necessarily have to be with siblings or parents (cont)
There r 3 HLA markers - A,B and DR with numerous subtypes -> 59 different HLA-A proteins, 118 different HLA-B & 124 different HLA-DR.. anybody having same hla types can match for transplantation. It doesn't always have to be from family.
you have a 25% chance of inheriting all of the same HLA (same 2 haplotypes) as any one of your siblings, you have a 25% chance of 'not' inheriting any of the same HLA (none of the same haplotypes) and you have a 50% chance of sharing I haplotype with your siblings.
There r several similarities between the Korean and Tamil culture of India in terms of language, foods and culture. This was found out by various scholars from both India and korea. Let's see some of the important similarities
There r many historical evidences to show that the ancient Tamils traded across the seas with different regions of Indian subcontinent and south East Asian countries. The first evidence of ancient maritime contact appears in the second half of first millennium bce from
Ban don ta phet in west central Thailand dated to the early 4th cent bce. Also ancient sangam literature "Nattrinai" narrates commercial as well as cultural link between south india and foreign countries
WHY RATIONALITY IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURES :-
Yoga vasistha is an amazing book consisting of countless stories. It illustrates that thr r atleast 3 ways to know ultimate truth - Reasoning, experience & god realisation. So let's see some imp verse on logic/reasoning.
Words that are logical are to be accepted even if it's spoken by a child. Otherwise they are to be rejected as straw even if it comes from the mouth of great lotus born brahma himself ( 2.18.3 )
He who is blind to "reason" is like one born blind. A demented man is an object of universal pity, but a man with reasoning soul possess divine eyesight and victorious in all things. ( 2.14.41 )
