many cats have a favorite object that they obsess over and it’s good to give the cat the object and see what they do. this also makes for a more personalized drawing
cats expand quickly but if you want to draw the kitten version of a cat just do an outline like this, keeping the head the same size
if you can write the word “awesome” you can draw a cat.
(and if you can write “GLITTEr” you can draw a dog)

stripes can be tricky to simplify but if you checked your striped cat at home, many of them have some recognizable letter-shapes on their face, especially the letter M (the most common in my experience)
adding slight animation to a sleeping cat is an easy way to make a drawing come to life
