The Senate just rejected this amendment from GOP Sen. Mike Braun to prohibit "certain types of human-animal chimeras"
"The term 'prohibited human-animal chimera' means... a human embryo into which a nonhuman cell or cells (or the component parts thereof) have been introduced to render the embryo's membership in the species Homo sapiens uncertain"
Pretty stiff penalty for creating a human-animal chimera:

"Whoever violates subsection (a) shall be... imprisoned not more than 10 years, or... be subject to a civil fine of the greater of $1,000,000; or the amount equal to twice the amount of the gross pecuniary gain, if any."
Which begs the question: how profitable are human-animal chimeras?
Braun's office offers more information on the chimera amendment:

Schumer: "Republicans in both chambers are trying to rewrite history and claim that Jan. 6 was a peaceful protest that got a little out of hand. And now this."
Schumer: "I've heard all the excuses why Republicans are opposing this bill. 'It's too early,' 'goes on too long,' 'not needed.' Almost all these excuses are meritless and were invented in the past 2 weeks."
Schumer: "We all know what's going on here... Republicans chose to defend the big lie because they believe anything that upsets Donald Trump might hurt them politically."

NEW: A bill aimed at increasing the supply of drugs to fight opioid addiction failed tonight after most Republicans voted against it.

The Democrat who introduced it says it's because she refused to let a Republican lead it over his electoral college vote.…
Rep. Madeleine Dean says Rep. Buddy Carter initially agreed to be a co-sponsor but "changed his mind last minute" and rallied Republicans in a "protest vote."

Dean, as an impeachment manager, said she'll "never forget" the "terrifying banging on the chamber door" on Jan. 6.
Carter, in a statement to @Forbes, accused Democrats of "cancel culture" and choosing "partisan political games and their Trump Derangement Syndrome" over bipartisan legislation, adding that he "won't sit silent."

Kinzinger on Cheney ouster, per pool: "In the short term it'll be a hit, obviously, to truth. But... in the long term, history will judge it as exactly what it was: a really dumb move by a party trying its best to be irrelevant."
Kinzinger: "We still may win the majority... but now when we win the majority, Donald Trump can take credit. Why don't we just get rid of him, move on... be a party that tells the truth and win the majority that way?"
Kinzinger says he's "certainly" disappointed in McCarthy. "I think it's all about winning the majority... what he's doing makes sense in the short term. I just think it's really terrible for the party and the country."

House GOP fundraising email sent out just now asks donors: "do you approve of Crooked Hillary Clinton?"
Me, seeing "Hillary Clinton" in an email subject line in the year 2021:
This is actually the second time the NRCC has fundraised off Hillary Clinton in a week. Here's one from April 26: "Who is worse? Crazy Nancy or Crooked Hillary?"
