Biden’s Budget Betrays Immigrants and Border Communities - Southern Border Communities Coalition southernborder.org/biden_s_budget…
2) “The Defund Hate campaign and immigrant rights groups who monitor technology surveillance programs expressed frustration after President Biden released a Fiscal Year 2022 budget request of $8.4 billion for (ICE) and $16.3 billion for (CBP).”
3) “The president’s budget contradicts his commitments to help communities rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic and pursue government policies that end racial inequities, and instead continues to direct billions of taxpayer dollars toward agencies

🧵 It’s difficult to estimate the number of migrant deaths on our southern border from the “deterrence operations” that Border Patrol has been doing since 1994. Border Patrol estimates it at 10,000. However, for every missing report, Border Patrol only finds about 1/5.
2) So, conservatively that puts estimates at 50,000. We have to assume that many people don’t have missing reports made by family or friends. Either they do not have family, maybe they are afraid to call or maybe they do not have the resources to contact the Border Patrol.
3) I can say as an ex-agent that agents are discouraged from reporting bodies because ever since Pres. Clinton’s Operation Gatekeeper, the walls and militarization has dramatically increased deaths. “Deterrence operations” were designed to push migrants out to the more

'Unacceptable' conditions at Fort Bliss migrant children shelter.
“…COVID-19, other infectious diseases and lice have grown rampant; that some contract caregivers lack adequate training to work with the children.” elpasotimes.com/story/news/202…
2) “More than 4,300 children who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border alone are being held in what official and inside sources say are dangerous and distressing conditions at an emergency shelter at Fort Bliss.”
3) “Children are receiving hot meals but are eating a repetitive diet, sources say, and some have inadequate access to showers and clean clothes.”

From Tecate to Campo, CA, along the border road, I saw only 5 Border Patrol agents and 1 of those was up on the checkpoint. No migrants. No hoards. No caravans. No agents being overwhelmed. No groups staging on south side.
2) We did see this Boulder with graffiti from Army Corps of Engineers:
3) This is the old railroad trestle that goes to Tecate, Mexico. Families can no longer take the Sunday train down for lunch. It’s really sad. The actual border line in halfway through the tunnel. I spent many working this area.

Sadly @CNN @jimsciutto are simply repeating USBP propaganda. Jim, migrants have been wearing camouflage & using carpet/foam booties for at least 25 yrs. The use of smaller, decoy groups is not new either. But @USBPChief needed a propaganda piece & you were willing to do it. 1)
2) @jimsciutto you should know I’m a former Senior Patrol agent. You should know that your story is nothing new. Everything you describe was happening in the 1990s and before. You should also know that agents are not being overwhelmed. The leadership lied to you.
3) @jimsciutto in the mid 90s we had about 5k-6k agents and routinely apprehended 1.5million + per year. Today, the agency has 20K agents, which suggests they should be able to handle 3million + per year. They are nowhere near those numbers.
