There has been talk of reunions for TV series from the 90's.
This TV series is now discontinued, but the nightingale of Bollywood wants a reunion.
A thread about the origin of the TV Series CID.
The man behind the TV series is BP Singh who had a successful Marathi series called Ek Shunya Shunya on DD.
See if you can spot some familiar faces from that show?
While working on that series, he met a doctor who told him - "People lie, but the dead always tell the truth."
That got him interested in cases where forensics were involved. He did all the research and spent more than 4.5 lacs of his personal money and shot 6 episodes of CID in 1992.
The first of these was called Kissa Zahar Ka.
He tried to sell the series to DD first and then Zee. But they did not agree.
In 1995, he got an offer from Sony for a Horror TV series. He produced another iconic series Aahat.
Sony was looking for a police story and BP Singh pitched CID.
Then in 1998, the first 6 episodes shot way back in 1992, were shown on Sony TV.
The public liked what they saw.
This is the first shot of Shivaji Satam from the show.
Shivaji Satam was very good friends with BP Singh. Satam, in 1992, was a central bank employee who did theater and TV series on the side.
But by 1998 he had become a much sought after actor in films.
So in episode 7, the first shot in 1998 - we see a slightly older Shivaji Satam, being promoted to ACP.
Shivaji Satam had to miss shoots for his film commitments - so a new lead character was introduced.
Inspector Viren was portrayed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
Inspector Viren was quite popular with the audience, but by 1999 - Ashutosh Gowariker had bigger things to do.. Like directing an Oscar nominated classic Lagaan.
So his character was written out.
Kissa Faraar Mujrim Ka was Gowariker's final appearance.
Aditya Srivastava had played a fugitive in the episode 'Kissa Pistol Ki Chora Ka'. In this episode, he played Paresh, who had been kicked out from his job. He chances upon the gun left by ACP and decides to use that to kill his boss. Strange I know.
But after the exit of Ashutosh Gowariker, Aditya Srivastava was reintroduced as Inspector Abhijeet in the episode 'Kissa Churaye Hue Dynamite Ka'
Abhijeet was someone who lost his memory after being attacked on the job.
This is the first shot of Inspector Abhijeet.
Interesting bit - the name Abhijeet was given because Shivaji's son in real life is Abhijeet Satam.
BP Singh wanted to show a father-son relationship between ACP Pradyuman and Abhijeet.
Dayanand Shetty was a shot put and discuss thrower and Maharashtra state champion in 1996. But an injury turned him to acting.
BP Singh, impressed by his build and personality, made him a permanent character - Daya.
First appearance in the episode The Stalker.
Dayanand Shetty kicking doors open didn't happen instantly. It took over 50 episodes for that to happen.
In our opinion, this is the first time ACP utters the words "Daya Darwaza Thod Do" in the episode Kissa Bandh Darwaze Ka.
Check out Shivaji Satam's beard here.
The dialogue has become so iconic - it has been referenced in Singham returns.
When Amol Gupte locks up the door, Bajirao Singham says the line "Daya Darwaza Tod" and Senior Inspector Daya duly obliges.
The show had a long list of writers.
Shridhar Raghavan, who wrote Khakee, Dum Maaro Dum wrote some of the early episodes.
Shridhar's brother Sriram Raghavan, started writing CID episodes before moving on to write and make films like Badlapur, Jhonny Gaddar and Andhadhun.
Other writers, characters, actors were all involved in more than 20 years run of the show.
What if Sony never agreed to BP Singh in the first place...

A trip from Mysore to Bangalore is simply incomplete without indulging in the mouthwatering Maddur Vada in Maddur.
In 1938, the town of Shivapura in Maddur proudly hoisted the Indian national flag, leaving an indelible mark on India's freedom struggle!
A thread🧵
In 1938, The Indian National Congress held its session in Haripura village in Surat, Gujarat.
The session was presided by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. At a time when hoisting the national flag was banned by the British, the Indian flag was hoisted at the Haripura session!
The Haripura Congress session where the tricolor was hoisted, inspired the Mysore leaders to hold a similar event!
But, the administration in Mysore got a whiff of these plans & banned public gathering. This did not stop leaders like Siddalingaiah & others
Arun Shourie once called the BJP government policies Congress plus Cow. During the first ever election in 1952, Congress had a pair of bullocks as its election symbol.
It is because of this lady from Tamil Nadu that the Congress Party has the hand as a symbol. 🧵
The very first elections took place in 1952. Given that the large portion of the population were illiterate, Sukumar Sen, India's first chief election commissioner decided on symbols to identify each party.
The congress party chose a pair of bullocks as its symbol.
Even during Nehru's time, there was a lot of dissatisfaction with the "Kamraj Plan". It required Congress Leaders to give up government posts, in order to strengthen the party.
K Kamraj realized that the party was losing its vigor and resigned from his post as CM of Madras to focus on rebuilding the party.
Jamnagar these days is famous for being the epicenter of Reliance industries and for welcoming the who's who of the world for a pre-wedding.
But in 1942, it played a significant role in saving over 1000 Polish children from certain death in WW2.

In 1939, Nazi Germany attacked Poland which started World War 2. Some Poles tried to escape the wrath of the Germans by moving into Soviet territory.
The Soviet authorities forced hundreds of thousands of Poles to migrate deeper into Soviet territory, including Siberia.
The invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany in 1941 prompted the USSR to declare an amnesty, resulting in the liberation of these Polish exiles. They were asked to find refuge themselves.
They embarked on arduous journeys to various destinations.
"Except for cricketers, poets, and singers, others found it relatively hard to come to India."
This was director John Mathew Matthan's rationale for portraying a ghazal singer as the villain!
25 years ago, crime drama changed forever with the release of Sarfarosh!
A Thread 🧵
John Matthew Matthan was an ad-film director, and "Sarfarosh" was his debut. But, he was an assistant to Govind Nihalani in Nihalani's first film "Aakrosh" and in "Gandhi," where Nihalani was the cinematographer!
He met Naseeruddin Shah on the sets of Aakrosh!
Aamir Khan's rationale to work with a debutant was as follows:
"When I read the script, I realized the social implications of what the film was trying to say (...) I reacted emotionally to it because of what I had been going through as an Indian, it talked of Hindus & Muslims living together."
