listening to the planning commission hearing on short term rentals, hearing them talk about the rule that airbnb properties need to be owner occupied at least 180 days per year, browsing local airbnb listings from people who have 2+ listings...
oh wow that's crazy, you live in 7 different downtown apartments?
personally i think it should be illegal for a company to own a residential property and no one should own more than one home, bye
there's so much profit in the illegal hotel industry that there is a whole small business complex that has sprung up where people act as middle-middlemen -- they interface between the property owner & airbnb. baffling.
please help me, this caller who manages other people's airbnb listings is talking about what incredible good deeds she's done allowing refugees to clean airbnbs
what i am NOT going to do is make actionable threats of property damage

according to a letter filed with the western district of virginia as part of the ongoing lawsuit against him for his involvement in unite the right, christopher cantwell has been transferred to the 'communications management unit' at USP marion, one of only 3 CMUs in the country. Image
CMUs restrict the type & frequency of communication with the outside world that people incarcerated within them are allowed to have. all letters, except those with counsel, are read & evaluated before going in or out. visitation & phone privileges are severely limited.
incarceration at a CMU is typically for people convicted of crimes of terrorism, people involved in recruitment/radicalization, or people who have abused communication privileges while incarcerated to harass witnesses, victims, judges, or others involved in prosecuting their case

"the number of lawyers and parties in this case raises a significant logistical concern," says judge norman moon about the sines v kessler case currently set for trial for this fall. there are so many parties to this case, they may not all fit in the courtroom.
judge moon says there aren't enough conference rooms for every party to have private space to meet with their attorneys during breaks.
"security concerns must also factor into this," and calls security in the charlottesville federal courthouse "woefully inadequate."
he's making a case for moving the trial to the federal courthouse in lynchburg, which is still part of the western district of virginia.
(the trial is currently set for FOUR WEEKS)

anyway, tbh i'm not a gender studies scholar and i can't answer this weirdo's bad faith questions about what gender IS. i mostly just let people be who they are and do my best to respect that. it's actually super easy and i don't have to think about it much.

here's the agenda for tonight's meeting of charlottesville's human rights commission.
last month's meeting started just hours after we'd all seen the horrific body camera video of the murder of adam toledo by the chicago police. they spent a bit of the meeting discussing the need to make a statement as a body about police violence

the human rights commission's full statement on killings by police starts on p. 14 of the agenda packet…
