This is a scientific journal that is describing whiteness as an affliction.…
This has to be a joke, right?
I really wish I didn't read this - I would never allow my kids to internalize this. I still can't process that this was published.

Surely this is another Sokal?
"Effective treatment consists of a combination of psychic and social-historical interventions."

Psychic interventions? Sign me up!
Ok. I'm going to close this and forget I ever saw that there are scientific papers referring to an entire race as parasites who need psychic treatment.
Hey look.

Someone wrote an article about it, and described the "outrage on social media".…
Here's some actual excerpts from the text.

Just left a graduation in Texas and I don't know how to describe it.

Those of us in Blue America truly have no idea that outside of our bubbles, life is 99% normal.
The graduation was split in two because the graduating class was so large and each student was given 10 tickets.
Everything was 100% normal - no mask requirement, no social distancing stickers, no policing of anyone's seating, no hint of COVID other than maybe 1% of the attendees who wore masks.

Anyone want to help me chronicle the last 14 months of lies, deception, & goalpost moving?

I'll start - 14 days to flatten the curve.
Children are superspreaders
If we had just locked down for "X weeks/months/years", COVID would be gone!

I have to make some confessions.

Last year, I was absolutely insane and I was one of those people who yelled at people outside for not wearing a mask.

It wasn't actually the virus that I was afraid of, but the lockdowns.
I was so deeply psychologically damaged from the NYC lockdown in the spring that I lived in perpetual terror of it happening again.

Cuomo spent the entire summer & fall threatening and browbeating us for our "bad behavior" and I deeply internalized this message.
I remember screaming at my neighbors and telling them that if they didn't put on a mask, they were going to face my wrath if my kids' school was closed.

At one point, he put us into an arbitrary microcluster and we escaped closed schools by only a few blocks.

I am not exaggerating when I say that about 40% of the people in my circle (MC outerborough NYC) are leaving @NYCSchools next year.

2 are mortgaging their homes for private tuition.

This is how little trust parents have that you will do the right thing @MeishaPorter @NYCMayor
The alternatives that people are leveraging are:
Private, suburbs, relocate completely out of the area

NYC has always been a punitive place to raise kids - expensive, small spaces.

But parents won't tolerate not having their kids be educated for years. @MeishaPorter @NYCMayor
It's MAY, and we still don't know what the plan is to ensure that every child is back in a classroom in Sept.

We know that your promises have not been kept. @MeishaPorter @NYCMayor

Our kids deserve a 100% normal school yr in Sept, like kids all over the US will have.

Reporter just asked @NYCMayor if he will overrule state guidance on indoor masks.

@NYCMayor says that he believes people will wear masks if they are comfortable.

Now says that we will watch the data & make adjustments if necessary.
From @davechokshi

"The CDC guidance is based on sound data for vaccinated people".

Says he recommends continued mask use in "many indoor settings" until more people are vaccinated.

Says he will keep his mask on.
Both reiterating that the guidance applies to fully vaccinated people and that people should "exercise good judgment".

Still recommending masking & distancing indoors but don't seem to be mandating it.

It's confusing, of course.

I have my own theories of why natural immunity was ignored for the past year, & they are political.
Recognizing the existence of natural immunity meant being politically lumped into the dreaded "herd immunity" bucket, where accusations of forced infection awaited you.
Recognizing natural immunity also meant that you would be forced to contend with the fact that our response shielded the privileged while sacrificing the most vulnerable.

In other words, you would need to recognize that those who built immunity ultimately served to protect you.
