So I've just spent some time reading budget planning docs for 6 of the larger school boards across Ontario. Here are a few highlights that I think might be relevant to #onpoli and to which folks able to do so might want to ask the Minister/Ministry of Education about:
More than one board is noting that the Ministry has directed them to be cautious in their budget plans.
Here's an excerpt from a Feb. 2021 memo directing boards as such:

Here's my #budget2021 hot-take (longish thread):
1) Overall : this is actually 2 budgets. One is a budget intended to cope with uncertainty about the next 6 months now that Wave 3 is going so poorly in ON, AB and elsewhere.
There's a plan to gradually wind-down emergency programs for workers and employers, in tandem, but with option to extend to November if needed (cannot find costing for this option). I don't see a way around this. Not planning would be irresponsible.
Then there's another budget that is about recovery, but a recovery that is greener and more equitably shared. There are no major tax hikes (no the yacht tax is unlikely, IMHO, to raise significant new revenues). EI premium rate will rise (per formula) but not until 2023.

It’s #Budget2021 tomorrow and I will be in the lock-up with @TorontoStar. So if you are looking for me, sorry, I’m out of commission.
I hope to hear something significant on #childcare, on EI reform and on @CanRevAgency role on auto-filing & e-payroll.
I’ll be looking to see how recovery spending lines up (amt & esp. mix) vs #FES $70B-100B envelope, deets on implementation, & how much hinges on cooperative federalism. I hope to see a federal government deploying a v wide range of tools.
Last, but not least, I’ll be looking to see how seriously the budget integrates GBA+ analysis AT THE FRONT END.

I've read the backgrounder from @erinotoole & @CPC_HQ and 1) I think it is unquestionably a good thing to have all parties agree that carbon pricing is important; 2) account-based policy has its place and compulsory savings CAN be taxes.
I have several questions about the proposed Personal Low Carbon Savings Account design and administration. This has the feel of a policy that hasn't totally been baked yet. Lots of "could mean" and "may".
Ok. We should welcome blue-sky thinking from parties.
But I spent 7+ years helping to design, run and evaluate a multimillion-dollar personal savings account experiment and I have questions, many in fact.

1) What's the plan for take-up? Voluntary enrolment won't work. There is no master list of adult Canadians.

Hello #YOW. You may have received one of the packages today from Service Line Warranties of Canada. offering you a "protection plan" for water and sewer with an @ottawacity logo. I did too. Here's what I'm learning:
Let's start with "Who is SLWC"? The URL in the mailout is plansOttawa.ca which you could be forgiven for thinking was a City of Ottawa page. Nope. It is a domain registered in October 2020 by HomeServe USA.
The HomeServe connection was also in the CBC story: cbc.ca/news/canada/ot…

You should read @MikePMoffatt 's thread this AM on basic income & disability. You should also look @tammyschirle's thread re: the just-published BC Basic Income Panel. I'm going to do a short thread on the content of the PMB (#C273), text: parl.ca/DocumentViewer… Here goes.
The preamble of the bill starts with a statement about intent and we have our first potential issue: Is there a right to full participation and dignity regardless of employment? I don't know but this does point to a BI design with no participation requirement.
That could be a deal-breaker for some.

The next two paras set a goal of sweeping overhaul to "program and service structures" and to Canada's (?) "social welfare system". The interpretation section is, however, mute on the definition of these "structures" or the "system".
