OK. Sausages and Northern Ireland. Can't say too much bc this issue crossed my desk a few months back.

I can say this:

1. It is bonkers to suggest that selling British sausages in NI necessarily undermines either the EU single market or the Good Friday Agreement.

2. It is unwise to sign an international treaty, brimful of gives and takes, with compromises and concessions left, right and centre, when you have no intention of upholding the parts you don't like but still to expect the other side to uphold the parts they don't like.

3. It is unprofessional to not prepare for a transition period to end and instead to pretend it is an enduring or permanent state of affairs, unless and only unless the subject is global nuclear disarmament.

Selling sausages in NI is not global nuclear disarmament.

4. It is ignorant to pretend anything other than that the importation of animal products is an issue at almost every international border in the world for good reason. British and EU laws and controls on the subject are both voluminous, matching almost perfectly.

5. Membership of EU would guarantee a continuing match.

We are not members of the EU.

6. So, yes, selling sausages won't reignite civil war or collapse EU markets but, seriously, what did they expect?

7. I can't answer that (see opening remark).

8. Fecking idiots.

Most people think 'GC' claims are ridiculous. There's no way civic society would endorse x y, or z, they think. That's crazy!

But under scrutiny , in a court of law, in a university inquiry, in a governing authority's investigation of evidence the concerns are legitimised.
And that's why 'no debate' was a necessary tactic of the extreme TRA strand (but not most trans people).

It was to adopt and secure a narrative of 'be kind just peeing be inclusive' whilst avoiding any attention being paid to the consequences
Institutions have been captured because they didnt do their job. They didnt care enough, about either trans rights or womens rights, to take a good balanced look at the claims.

WESC didn't listen to any concerns, they just nodded through an agenda.

Cheap brownie points.

The Forstater judgment is important in several respects.

First and foremost it corrects the calamitous error of describing as 'unworthy of respect in a democratic society' the core, widely held belief in the immutability and binary nature of human sex.
The jud

It also stresses that this 'belief' is not only popular but also consistent with the law of the land, rejecting the outdated nature of Corbett.

EAT warns to tread especially carefully over widely held beliefs in a democracy.
Second, for me, is the recognition that holding this belief may well offend some people but that in itself is no reason to suppress its expression.

No one has the right to remain undefended.

Ann is a socialist feminist, one of the most inspirational people I've ever met.

She is committed, industrious, compassionate, intelligent and hugely experienced in the labour movement.

Ann is one of those unsung heroes: diligently chipping away inequality and injustice.

It is a privilege to know her.

Her relentless hounding by naif students and lefties in a frenzied witch hunt is a disgrace.

The silent complicity of leaders and office holders is worse.
When the Labour Party leadership looks back on this period, after all these self indulgent stupid kids have left us, they will wonder why so many people left Ann hung out to dry, on her own.

And in Edinburgh, Sarah Smith will have to sleep with her own failed conscience.
