NEW: From “just asking questions” to full on conspiracy theories, meet Georgia’s election deniers, pushing misinfo about 2020 as a springboard to higher office in 2022. #gapol

A deep dive from me+@GeorgiaNewsLab @GNLarmstrong

gpb.org/news/2021/06/1…
Some GOP lawmakers are parlaying their election skepticism into bids for higher office, launching campaigns for Congress, the governor’s mansion and the office of the top election official in the state.

gpb.org/news/2021/06/1…
There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, as confirmed by the original tally, a hand-counted risk-limiting audit of all the nearly five million votes for president, and a machine recount requested by the Trump campaign.

gpb.org/news/2021/06/1…
... But that hasn’t stopped prominent supporters of Trump from promoting falsehoods about absentee ballot fraud, floating claims of illegal voting and parroting allegations of conspiracies that have been thoroughly debunked by election officials.

gpb.org/news/2021/06/1…
This week, amid growing calls by some Republicans to conduct a “forensic audit” of Georgia’s ballots, state Sens. Burt Jones (R-Jackson) and Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) visited Maricopa County, Ariz., where a widely derided “audit” is underway.

gpb.org/news/2021/06/1…
Georgia’s state Senate has been ground zero for election misinformation since even before the election was certified for Biden.

16 Senators signed on to a failed SCOTUS suit that Georgia’s GOP AG called “constitutionally, legally and factually wrong.”

Elections officials and their families are STILL getting death threats from November 2020... #gapol

Late on the night of April 24, the wife of Georgia’s top election official got a chilling text message: 'You and your family will be killed very slowly.'

Oath Keepers showed up outside Secretary of State Brad Raffenspergers' house. Someone broke into their daughter-in-law's house.

Tricia Raffensperger got these texts just a few months ago:

In Fulton County, where nearly all the election office workers are Black, people left voicemails with death threats and racial slurs.

I believe that is GAGOP chairman David Shafer with Jones and Beach, as well. #gapol
A closer-up picture and that appears to be him. (I haven't seen him in person recently on account of being prevented from actually being on the convention floor over the weekend, ya know?)
They coulda saved some Delta SkyMiles if they read my article looking into how a "forensic audit" would work.

(it won't)

(it's not a real thing)

Not going away: A group of 500+ Georgia Republicans (including gubernatorial candidate Vernon Jones) sent an open letter to Gov. Kemp asking for a "forensic audit" of the 2020 election.

Ask any election expert though, and they'll tell you a "forensic audit" isn't a thing. #gapol
The "Georgia Star" report about missing chain of custody of absentee drop boxes just isn't true. Only three small rural counties don't have the forms!

The Fulton absentee lawsuit is an *inspection* (on hold), not an audit.

Average people don't understand how elections work.

A growing number of Republicans have now learned an incorrect idea/concept of how elections work.

And Georgia's too politically divided at the moment to make headway on either group, it seems.

NEW: About that alarm at the Fulton County election warehouse...

The Newsmax correspondent who broke the story gave misleading info, the alarm wasn't in elections part of the building, the door wasn't "wide open" and there's still big questions. #gapol

gpb.org/news/2021/06/0…
The Fulton County Sheriff's office is investigating why an alarm went off over the weekend at a warehouse that stores election equipment, the latest bizarre twist in an ongoing lawsuit seeking to prove thrice-counted absentee ballots were marred by fraud.

gpb.org/news/2021/06/0…
Since reports of the alarm trickled in late Saturday, the info void has been filled by conspiracy-minded media outlets and others who already believe Georgia's most populous county committed voter fraud at a scale that caused Trump's narrow defeat.

I am somewhat shocked to report that Gateway Pundit is misleading you about what is going on in Fulton County.
You can help people not be suckered into a grift or a cocoon of lies about the real world, where Biden won the election and there were human shortcomings in the process but no evidence of widespread or meaningful fraud, by sharing the truth.

gpb.org/news/2021/05/2…
Good morning from alternate reality Earth 2, where this is *totally* a thing that happened and only the Newsmax White House Correspondent knows about it.

This isn’t verified and isn’t even plausible (what building? Who found it? Is the implication they destroyed ballots?) Image

NEW: A Friday meeting to discuss logistical plans for a conspiracy theorist + others to review copies of Fulton's 147,000 absentee ballots for evidence of fraud has been canceled after the defendants filed motions to dismiss the underlying lawsuit. #gapol

gpb.org/news/2021/05/2…
Fulton County, the Fulton County Board of Registrations and Elections and the Fulton County Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts all filed motions to dismiss Weds/Thurs arguing the plaintiffs failed to properly serve them notice of the suit. #gapol

gpb.org/news/2021/05/2…
The filings also allege plaintiffs sued the wrong people, the defendants are protected under sovereign immunity and that plaintiffs failed to state a claim that entitles them to court action.
