BREAKING: "Records of @pritipatel's contact with police over Extinction Rebellion protest deleted in 'IT glitch', court hears." 🏴‍☠️
"Defence lawyers representing protesters charged over the blockade of a Rupert Murdoch-owned printing works in September argue they cannot have a fair trial because the extent of alleged political interference is unknown." 🏴‍☠️
St Albans Magistrates’ Court heard that @pritipatel was alerted to the protest in Broxbourne *by contacts in the media.* 🤔

In a statement read to a hearing on Friday, Mr Hall said he was woken up by the first call from the Home Secretary at 11.40pm on 4 September. 🏴‍☠️
Charlie Hall, Chief Constable said: "My phone has updated itself since that time & *removed any messages* or all records from this period."

"These texts to my work phone have been deleted, a number of work phones were erroneously reset to factory settings after an IT glitch."
Barrister Raj Chada said the defence would be asking how phone records belonging to two senior officers and relating to "The very issue at the heart of this case" came to be deleted.
Raj Chada: "We say in light of that the defendants cannot receive a fair trial," he added. "It is only when the extent of the political interference is determined that this court can scrutinise the effect."
Judge Fudge said she had seen screenshots of texts between some police officers & @pritipatel but did not make clear where the records were from.

Fudge: The messages did not have to be disclosed to the defence, were not "reasonably capable of undermining the prosecution case."
Prosecutor Nigel Ogborne said the prosecution’s view was that none of the material received "Satisfied the disclosure test."
Defence argues that the alleged interference would contradict fundamental principle of operational independence for police in UK, which Govt has previously committed to protecting.
Govt is now backing a controversial suite of strengthened protest laws that are a direct response to XR's tactics.

",@BorisJohnson Misled MPs Over Unusable PPE." Sian Norris, @BylineTimes.

Evidence provided by the most senior official at the DHSC on the procurement of PPE during the pandemic appears to contradict previous claims by Johnson & @michaelgove. 🏴‍☠️

bylinetimes.com/2021/06/11/bor…
@BorisJohnson said that "99.5%" of the 32bn items of PPE the country secured conformed entirely to our clinical needs, once checked.

@michaelgove told HoC that "It is a well attested fact that less than 0.5% of PPE procured did not meet the standards that we had set out."
DHSC permanent secretary Sir Chris Wormald told the Public Accounts Committee that one in 10 of all PPE in storage was not of high enough quality for use in a clinical setting – amounting to 2.9bn items of PPE, costing £1.5 billion. @BorisJohnson, @michaelgove. 🧐 🏴‍☠️

.@DominicRaab's hypocrisy and aimlessness is nearly as bad as @BorisJohnson's from what we have seen in the last 24hours during the media rounds. The Tories do not live in the real world. 🏴‍☠️
@DominicRaab: "We want a flexible, pragmatic approach to the Irish protocol, but the EU must be less purist, more pragmatic & more flexible in the implementation of it... the ball is very much in the EU's court." 🏴‍☠️
