1/ A note on @GregJaffe - a @PulitzerPrizes finalist for feature writing this year about the impact of the pandemic on Americans living on the economic edge. He is not just one of my most talented colleagues in @washingtonpost - he is among the most reflective and thoughtful.
2/ I don't just read every story that he writes. I reread them, and learn something new each time. That includes the piece he did with @Eve_Edelheit about a Florida family forced from their home. It transformed their lives. washingtonpost.com/graphics/photo…
3/ And this one, about an employee at #DisneyWorld who was laid off. What I loved, and was so painful about this piece, was how it captured what a job with benefits means to a family with a special needs child, and how those gains can slip away. washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/…
4/ So all I can say is this: Read Greg's work, and you will be richer for it. It is extraordinary.

1/ SCOOP: As Democrats have grown nervous the White House might scale back #ClimateAction in bipartisan infrastructure talks, @algore called @POTUS privately to make the case for keeping those provisions in the package. W/ @JStein_WaPo and @tylerpager wapo.st/3gtpSl0
2/ Gore, who also spoke with Biden aide Steve Ricchetti about climate and infrastructure in a separate call, urged the president to stop the planned Byhalia Pipeline, which would transport crude oil for export through predominantly Black neighborhoods in southwest Memphis, TN.
3/ That pipeline, which raises both environmental justice and climate concerns, might be the next big target for activists on the left.

1/ EPA's associate deputy regional administrator for Region 6, Corry Schiermeyer -- who served as the agency's top spox before moving to Texas -- sent a resignation letter to @EPAAWheeler and it's the sharpest language I've seen from an EPA Trump appointee on the Capitol siege.
2/ It says Biden-Harris won 'a free and fair election. In our democracy we should honor the wishes of the American people and support a peaceful transition of power from one President to another. Unfortunately, our President has not adhered to that tradition.'
3/ 'In fact, he has attempted to subvert our democracy by spreading a false narrative that the election was fraudulent. I believe this false narrative and the President’s irresponsible actions lead to the deadly attack on January 6.'

1/ @dino_grandoni and I wrote this piece about how many environmental rollbacks Trump's done this week, and we kept having to add to the story today as the administration pushed decisions out the door: wapo.st/3susnZH
2/ For example, @Interior has inserted language into its official instruction manual requiring employees to use #climate models that project fewer impacts as well as severe ones, citing 'uncertainty' and 'there is no best or worst climate model' doi.gov/sites/doi.gov/…
3/ @BLMAlaska announced that @SecBernhardt signed an executive order opening up 9.7 million acres of land in Alaska up to oil and gas drilling and mining: public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2021-01111.pdf

1/ This statement that @RepRaskin and Sarah Bloom Raskin wrote about their son Tommy's life and death is one of the most extraordinary things I've read in some time. I wanted to share a couple of thoughts about it. repraskin.medium.com
2/ I've written a few obituaries in my time at the Post, which is a very hard, but very important, thing to do. You must strive to convey not only what a person was like, but why their life mattered, how they made their mark in the world. This piece does that beautifully.
3/ But more than that, it captures how brutal a disease depression can be, how it can wall a person off from others, and how hard it is to reach someone in that state.

1/ With days left in office, Trump is finalizing major drilling expansions in Alaska. @BLMAlaska has issued a Record of Decision to allow oil and gas leasing on another 7M acres of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, the US' largest swath of public land blm.gov/planning-and-n…
2/ In 2019 @bonjomo and I journeyed to Teshekpuk Lake, in the heart of the NPR-A, to chronicle the wildlife that flock there each year. We also visited the village of Nuiqsut, the town divided over whether to stop drilling on the reserve. Here's our story: washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/…
3/ And on Wednesday, the administration will auction off drilling rights to explore for oil in #arcticnationalwildliferefuge -- which has been off limits for four decades.

1/ In other #climate news, @GM -- which had backed Trump in a lawsuit trying to strip California of its authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions more stringently than the Feds, withdrew today from the suit. CEO Barra called @MaryNicholsCA and sent a letter to enviro groups.
2/ The letter hints at a future deal-in-the-making: 'We believe the ambitious electrification goals of the President-elect, California, and General Motors are aligned, to address climate change by drastically reducing automobile emissions.'
3/ 'We are confident that the Biden Administration, California, and the U.S. auto industry, which supports 10.3 million jobs, can collaboratively find the pathway that will deliver an all-electric future.'
