FATF succumbs to Chinese šØš³ pressure and so doesn't blacklist Pakistan
Pakistan šµš°Ā adopts the tactic of showcasing strict action againstĀ terror financing and terror organisations are continuing to function freely in the country
PakĀ has been using its established and activeĀ money launderingĀ networks in Africa and Europe not only for ordinary Pakistanis sending remittances, but also for terror groups and theĀ Pakistani intelligence to fund their activities abroad.
The UK has putĀ PakistanĀ on its high risk list of countries due to itsĀ money launderingĀ andĀ terror financing activities, since the money laundered through these networks is used to fund criminal activities.
PakistanĀ has well-established and active drug trafficking networks in Europe and Africa. The money generated through these networks is an important source of income for terror activities, and is used to finance militancy in Africa
FATFĀ is dragging its feet on these issues inĀ PakistanĀ due to China's considerable influence on the organisation. China's economic influence over the West consequently results in theseĀ FATFĀ member countries also not holdingĀ PakistanĀ accountable for these activities.
China, a close strategic partner ofĀ Pakistan, has a poor record of compliance with targeted financial sanction regimes, and is also committing grave human rights violations in Xinjiang, Tibet and other parts of the country.
As the final outcome of FATF to come on June 25, the global financing watchdog should consider the impact of growing Pak-China nexus in terror financing to save the world from terrorism.
