If you're wondering "how did the #CriticalRaceTheory issue blow up like this?" you can trace the roots to @realchrisrufo, a conservative marketing genius who created the strawman argument around CRT and fed it into the media blood stream.
Rufo knows that CRT, a nuanced set of racial theories is only taught in graduate level courses, and NOT taught in K-12 schools. But he's convinced people, through popular outlets like @foxnews, who has mentioned CRT more than 4,000 times in the last year that CRT is in your K-12
Rufo is also aware that some white Americans are uncomfortable with the social justice movement surrounding the murder of George Floyd. So using CRT, he has managed to turn the decades old theory into a "toxic" brand.
That way anytime anyone sees a news story about race that they find uncomfortable or contrary to their belief system they can easily label it "CRT."
Additionally, instead of highlighting potentially "outrageous" ideas in CRT he has argued that generally accepted and mostly benign words like "inclusion, and "equity," are Trojan horses that delivery CRT into the education system.
The end result is that once universally accepted language about race is now "toxic." And when words like "inclusion" are found in a school text book, parents will be alarmed.
Rufo has found a darkly affective way to win a war that he started, and he has managed to find a way to pull American kids in to the grist mill of America's divisive political battleground.
