The State Capture Narrative. A lot of questions

[A thread]

In February 2009 just before President Zuma took office at the height of world economic crisis, Minister Trevor Manuel announced a budget of R834 billion.

In May 2009 after elections Zuma would appoint Pravin Gordhan
Between May 2009 and May 2014, as Minister of Finance Pravin would preside over government expenditure worth more than R4.4 trillion broken down as follows
2009/10 - R 747 billion
2010/11 - R 805 billion
2011/12 - R 889 billion
2012/13 - R965 billion
2013/14 - R1.05 trillion
Between 2014/15 and 2017/18 when Zuma resigned, government expenditure would total a further R 5 trillion as follows:

2014/15 - R 1.13 trillion
2015/16 - R 1.24 trillion
2016/17 - R 1.3 trillion
2017/18 - R 1.4 trillion
Basically during the period now known 9 Wasted years, government expenditure was in excess of R 9 trillion.

It is during this period that the chattering class have crafted a narrative of the state having been captured by an Indian family.

We were also told the dots were joined.
I don't need to spend days telling you the narrative and angles but this is what was canvassed in the main:👇🏿

Prof Madonsela is 1 who crafted the narrative of state capture in her PP report which led to Zondo Commission being established.

After years of investigation we now learned that the Gupta empire had contracts worth R57 billion during 9 wasted years

We have also learned that the Guptas earned in excess of R 16 billion during the 9 wasted years

That means on average they had contracts worth R6.3 billion per annum and also earned R 1.78 billion per annum

Now to make this easier to understand. Over R 9 trillion was spent during the 9 wasted years. That's on average R 1 trillion per annum.

Of this, the Guptas had contracts worth 0.63% per annum & earned 0.178%
Now perhaps it would be better if you made me understand what happened to the rest of the R 9 trillion during the 9 wasted years because clearly the Guptas earned less than 1% of that.

In capturing the state they only managed to earn R 16 billion in a R 9 trillion universe.
At the end of the State Capture Commission of Inquiry, will Zondo ACJ be able to tell us who really, really, truly, verily captured the state because evidence does not support the notion of the Guptas having captured the state.

Unless perhaps we are not getting the full story.

How to mess up well-functioning state-owned entity.

When Brian Molefe got to Eskom amid the loadshedding crisis, they soon realised that at the core of solving loadshedding is having a clear focus and coordinated effort on plant maintenance.

They introduced maintenance festivals under the Tetris program.

By November 2015 they were reaping the success of the maintenance program and the results were starting to show.

After reading that ConCourt judgement by Khampepe J, which I consider to be extremely emotional if not obnoxious, perhaps this could be turned into a quick thread.

Let's see.
Commission argued that its lifespan is expected to expire in March 2021 & it was extremely urgent for Zuma to appear.

The ConCourt found that although the urgency was self created, it was in public interest to allow direct access on urgent basis.

Despite recusal application 👇🏿

The biggest injustice of these lockdowns have not been restrictions on civil liberties.

It appears governments the world over have failed to push for HEALTHY LIFESTYLES.

At the height of the madness they even banned exercise on the streets and in gym.

But exercise is good for the immune system but is not on the official list to fight Covid-19

We all know that sugar intake is bad for the immune system. Even worse, it can lead to obesity and diabetes.

And we know what happens when you are infected with opportunistic infections whilst obese.

Why is sugar restrictions not on the Covid-19 list

The Minister of Transport, and member of the ANC NEC honourable Fikile Mbalula told BBC that "Jacob Zuma's incarceration was gonna happen in Stages"

Let us trace the stages

[A thread]
Stage 1

After Zondo DCJ had refused to recuse himself, in Dec 2020 he abandoned remedies available in terms of the Commissions Act and filed urgent papers petitioning his own court, the ConCourt to force President Jacob Zuma to appear before him despite whatever protests
Stage 2

In Feb 2021, the Zondo Commission again filed urgent papers petitioning the ConCourt that President Jacob Zuma be imprisoned for two years.

The evil de-campaigning of the public protector. A class perspective

[A thread]

In October 2016, Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane was appointed Public Protector of South Africa, an Ombudsman role established in terms of Chapter 9 of the Constitution of SA.
Adv. Mkhwebane was amongst 78 formal & 3 verbal nominees like Judge Moseneke, Prof Pierre De Vos, President Thabo Mbeki, Judge Desai, Philip Dexter, Mamodupi Mohlala, Adv. Gerrie Nel, Nhlanhla Nene, Adv. Willie Hofmeyr and Graca Machel.

She was shortlisted amongst 5 others
DA MPs Werner Horn and Glynnis Breytenbach made startling claims that PP Mkhwebane was not fit for office because she was a spy and prompted her to decline the nomination for public protector.

The PP denounced these allegations and took the DA to court for defamation.
