Forget the pandemic, the pingdemic, and everything else, this is the news the world has been waiting for - THE PILLAR TALK NEWSLETTER - featuring not only me but the wit and wisdom of Felix the Dog in his regular column, Kennel Corner.
Everyone will be delighted to hear that I can GUARANTEE there will be no technical trade / customs chat.
Nor will there be any discussion of obscure (but very interesting) aspects of public transport.
And there won’t be any political gossip.
All I can promise (in fact, guarantee) are the incoherent ramblings of an ancient sage whose best days are lost in the mists of time, and…
Ahem @DaphneFlap @ParkinKatt I’m sure the cat community has been dying to read a regular column by a dog.
Alerting @Harkaway @brokenbottleboy to this which I consider the media event of the year. Not every day someone comes up with an entirely new media concept.

Obvious move now would be for the EU to offer to lend (underlined) a substantial number of Pfizer vaccines (to be repaid by the next UK delivery (due September)) to alleviate any short term shortage.
In the best of all possible worlds, this mutually beneficial mechanism might be part of a wider regional cooperation agreement which would (among other things) provide for mutual recognition of vaccination status.
Cross border vaccine issues are yet another unforeseen consequence of Brexit. You simply cannot get away from the human geography of holidays and work travel.

There’s enough thoughtful expert opinion arguing in favour of reducing restrictions (ie ‘living with it’) in the post vaccine environment for me to be broadly ok with ‘living with it’ as the direction of travel.

…The transition from ‘restrictions’ to ‘living with it’ is (to state the blindingly obvious) not as straightforward as lockdown versus ‘freedom’.
The current plan is failing < gestures at everything > because government hasn’t invested the time or intellectual energy to work out a functional execution plan.

We have reached the point of this government where it is axiomatic that every speech will be empty, every policy will fail, and every rule will be obeyed to the point of convenience and no further.
Will freedom day be a success?

Of course not.
Will the levelling up speech have any substance?

Of course not.

People of Twitter, As you gaze aghast over your cornflakes at the France quarantine decision, I have devised a modest proposal which will, in a market based manner, save our NHS, save your holidays and line your pockets with gold.
Rather than making it difficult for people to go on holiday (or indeed live or work) in lower prevalence European countries, we should make it much, much easier for the fuller vaccinated.
In effect, I suggest that we incentivise fully vaccinated Brits to move to Europe AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to avoid the UK fourth wave finding any gaps in the stout walls of their vaccine defences.

I’m being radicalised by the English football team. Definitely didn’t see that coming.
Off to the barricades with Gareth and the lads.
It blows my mind that they’re the most resonant political / cultural force I’ve ever seen in the UK.

But you know what…

…they bloody are…

Great stuff (and rather funny) from @Dannythefink…
Reading this I was reminded a little of the discourse yesterday re the very weird tweets re this from you know who.
It occurred to me that you can contend with this on a number of different levels - emotional, intellectual, political etc - but perhaps the most appropriate response…
