Losing weight is simple
Here’s how I did it

I spent about 15 years of my life struggling with being overweight

There were several times I lost weight and then put it back on

What was key for me was learning the basics and committing to do them over and over again
I lost over 40 lbs and got in the best shape of my life

And really all it took was focusing on a few things that I will share with you today

And I promise you, these things are very simple
When I began my fitness journey, I had just learned what a caloric deficit was

For those who do not know, this means that you consume less calories than you burn daily

If you are in a deficit, you will lose weight

And this is exactly why I started intermittent fasting
Here was my logic behind fasting

If the key to losing weight was to consume less calories than I burn

I had a much higher chance of doing so if I cut a whole meal’s worth of calories out
It was around this time I learned from my friend @keithhaaff that 3500 calories= 1lb

If you're in a deficit of 500 calories/day, you'll lose a pound a week

500 cals/day x 7 days/week= 3500 calories

Adjust your deficit according to how you would like to lose weight
Then I learned that protein is the holy grail

Eating protein helps to burn more calories and fat

I discovered I needed to be eating around .8g-1g of protein/lb of my body weight
So I started eating more protein, but kept a focus on lean protein as I was trying to cut calories

Ground turkey, shrimp, pork chops, salmon, cottage cheese

All of these foods are high in protein and relatively low in calories
Next, you are guaranteed success, and much faster success, if you parlay the caloric deficit with consistent exercise

For me it was lifting weights, which I started doing at least 5x per week
When it comes to exercise, it doesn't have to be anything crazy

In a beginner stage, just focus on moving your body

About a year into my journey, I started walking every day

Walking is a fantastic way to burn calories as well as clear your mind and get some alone time
Many people will give fitness trackers a hard time, but I loved having my apple watch at this time as well

It was motivating and gave me a rough idea of the calories I was burning
Another thing that was monumental for my life overall was giving up alcohol

Not everyone needs to give it up completely, but moderating consumption will help tremendously

Calories you drink still count as calories
Like my man @anymanfitness pointed out, a 6 pack of Bud Light is 834 calories

This is a whole entire meal's worth of beer

That is detrimental to a deficit and progress overall
Everything I have gone over so far is the simple stuff

The difficult part is being patient and staying consistent

You didn’t put the weight on in one month, so don’t expect to lose it in one month
To review, here was my path:
Caloric deficit
Intermittent fasting
Low calorie, high protein foods
Moderating booze consumption
Lifting weights
Going on walks
To each and everyone of you out there in search of weight loss goals and getting in shape

I promise you that you can do it

Find a plan that works and stick to it

Your actions will compound over time and you WILL reach your goals
A new, healthy life awaits you
