HIPAA does not apply to journalists — it applies to entities covered by the statute, like health care plans.
And the First Amendment has to do with government censorship, not private platforms moderating their content. Yeesh.

Brady: "Not a lot of people think we could have won. In fact, I think about 40% of people still don't think we won."

Biden: "I understand that!"
High likelihood of an angry Trump statement hitting inboxes soon
Is Brady's "sleepy Tom" joke a subtle dig at Trump? Or is that reading too much into things?

This sentencing hearing is today. It will set a guidepost for prison sentences for other 1/6 defendants.
Prosecutor arguing that Hodgkins isn't some guy who got swept up in a crowd for 15 minutes.

"He had seen all this destruction and violence around him, and what did he do?...he made the decision to walk to the Senate chamber...with his goggles on, taking his selfies."
I expect this to be a familiar refrain from DOJ in these sentencing hearings: Stiff prison sentences are needed to deter "sequels to January 6" in the future

A U.S. judge has dismissed Roy Moore's defamation lawsuit against British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, in which the former U.S. Senate candidate from Alabama claimed he was duped into appearing on Cohen's Showtime series "Who Is America?" and falsely portrayed as a sex offender.
The judge said the consent agreement Roy Moore signed to appear on Sacha Baron Cohen's show precluded his claims of defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and fraud.

In other Sacha Baron Cohen news, he sued the U.S. cannabis company behind this billboard.

He says he's never used marijuana, and doesn't do commercials in general. He once turned down a $4 million offer to do a car commercial. But this billboard made him look like a spokesman.

This sanctions hearing is underway. Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, among other "Kraken" lawyers, have joined via videoconference. Will this be a moment of reckoning for them?

I'll be watching and dropping occasional thoughts in this thread.
One "Kraken" lawyer, Emily Newman, argues through her counsel that she was barely involved in this Michigan case, and that she wasn't properly served with the sanctions motion.

Lin Wood also says he didn't help draft the complaint.

Lots of finger-pointing, essentially.
David Fink, a lawyer for the City of Detroit: This sort of finger-pointing and excuse-making is a recurring theme with the Kraken lawyers. Ultimately, these lawyers "used the privilege of being attorneys" to put their names on a frivolous lawsuit, and should be held accountable.

On Monday, a judge will hear arguments over whether Sidney Powell, Lin Wood, and other "Kraken" lawyers should be disciplined for a lawsuit they filed seeking to overturn Biden's win in Michigan.

The hearing will be held by videoconference and is open to the general public.
For those asking, here’s more info about how to watch

Michigan's AG is seeking judicial sanctions against Sidney Powell and her co-counsel. Separately, the AG is seeking to have these lawyers disbarred.

Notably, Trump at his rally conceded the core facts of the criminal case are true.

Trump specifically mentioned Weisselberg's car lease, apartment, and tuition payments.

He then asserted that "every company" does "fringe benefits" but he was singled out for prosecution.
Trump all but admitting to the core facts alleged in the criminal case:

"You didn’t pay tax on the car or a company apartment...you didn’t pay tax for education for your grandchildren — I, don’t even know what do you have to put? Does anybody know the answer to this stuff?"
