My Shekhar Gupta 50 word edit:

While national security is important and some surveillance needed, Pegasus is not the right implementation. India is an IT hub. We must respect Make in India and IT bill mandating no offshoring of our personal data. Good idea, bad implementation.
My Barkha Dutt summary:

I have been relentlessly covering the brave covid warriors and to know that people like me could be tracked is unsettling. I will continue my ruthless pursuit of real India stories whether or not Pegasus snoops on my phone. A journalist never sleeps.
My Rajdeep summary:

While we need more debate on the ethics of spyware, I will now unwind for the day with some fantastic Bombil fry, pineapple rasam and sol kadhi. In the pursuit of the Big Picture, let us not forget the small pleasures of life. Shubh raatri.
My Sachin Kalbag summary:

This Pegasus scandal takes me back to when match fixing allegations by Kōnoshin Suga san and Seiichiro Hashimoto san rocked the high profile world of Sumo wrestling.
My Sruti Rajagopalan summary:

NSO is a monopoly which is why the license fee is so high. They are price gouging. We need more competition in in the surveillance software industry to make it more affordable to the taxpayer.
My Atanu Dey Summary:

Pegasus proves that Manmohan Singh is a despicable toadie controlled by Antonia Edvige Maino.
My Krish Ashok summary:

Morocco spying on Macron brings me to the confluence of Maghreb and French cuisines. The amaklamatic ketones of the harira complement the coq-au-vin's tannin rich flavor burst.
My Ramesh Srivats summary:

Pegasus was a winged Horse but now it is a Trojan Horse which is causing Night Mare for Horse Traders. Yes - the pun is my Work Horse!

It is your choice of course to crowdfund someone's expensive higher education. But do look at the course they are going to. Not every Ivy/Oxbridge degree is what you think it is. Most academics wont tell you because it violates an implicit omerta…
You (and the recipient of you generous aid) should do a lot more due diligence before funding a masters degree. Otherwise, sadly, the only real beneficiary of your largesse may only be a multibillion university endowment.
Feel free to send me hate messages but very few other academics will tell you this.

Apart from credit history, startups can harness the power of BIG DATA to vet potential hires via background checks. Here are 10 things every employer must check out about a candidate. Thread coming up.
10. Netflix viewing history.

Movie and series watching tells a lot about priorities. For example, someone watching Sacred Games is obviously not a good fit in roles requiring logic. And Narcos fans clearly will not appreciate deep learning.
9. Dietary habits.

It is well known that keto diet is best to inculcate libertarian CEO mindset. Starch eaters may not be suitable for leadership oriented jobs.

Unpopular opinion. Kerals should be banned from making porotta. Such an abomination. North Indian paratha is the only acceptable one.
Tamilians at least accept their porotta is crap and thus after making it, shred it and mix it with the meat as koothu parotta. We must all accept our shortcomings this way.
Bengali porota is basically a fried chapati. Lazy but edible. Grace marks.

My algebra teacher (wife of an ex test cricketer) was illogical af.

I once asked her why we use Greek letters instead of Kannad or Devanagiri (in class 8) for variables and her reply was "Is this Kannad class?"

I told her it was not Greek class either and she blew her top.
She also almost got one classmate expelled because she was wearing Black and White stripe saree and saw him mutter the word "zebra" to his neighbor when she walked in. And that neighbor ratted him out.
She once took leave saying "important personal work." As kids we were elated with free period of course. But then she showed up on TV as spectator in Sharjah match. But when people told her, she vehemently denied going to Sharjah and again blew her top 🤣🤣🤣

The Columbia MFA is a 2y program. Each yr has about $71k fee. Thats $142k for 2 years. Median off campus living cost about 25k per yr 50k for 2yrs.

Either the person was splurging on luxury or REAL predatory loan to run up 300k debt in 3y. ImageImageImage
He graduated in 2018. So lets say he took loan in 2016. It is 2021 now.

A 192k loan becomes 300k in 5y at about 10% annual compound rate. Graduate loans are available at 5-7%.

Either he borrowed way more than what is reasonable for a student or WSJ is including undergrad debt.
Also unlikely he took full 190k loan 5y ago. Mostly took half then and half a yr later. So the actual debt should be a bit lower.
