i'm actually starting to feel kind of bad for this poor lawyer - he's really struggling up there this morning
did my client post on the day of the capitol attack "WE DID THIS!" yes, but what he meant was, my team did this, like the redskins, you know? not that he was out there on the field playing. i can hear the look on the judge's face when he says "there are pictures of him"
look your honor, those were not OPERABLE grenades, they were PRACTICE grenades, so i think we can all agree there's no need to revoke anyone's bail here.
this is a very weird comedy
maybe don't go on a gun forum on a website where you are also buying guns a judge told you you can't have and post stuff like "let's do more violence"

a sparse crowd of gun rights guys ignoring the demonstration zone outside of the albemarle county office building, where the meeting including discussion about a firearm ordinance would be held, except it’s on zoom.
regardless of your feelings about whether the county should outlaw carrying a gun to a public meeting, i am willing to bet a solid 80% of these people do not actually have cause to worry about it because they do not engage in local govt until their gun rights club tells them to
the rally was put together by VCDL, the virginia 2A lobby group whose president philip van cleave once got tricked by sacha baron cohen into filming a PSA in support of giving guns disguised as stuffed animals to toddlers

"it's so fantastical that it's a little bit hard to talk about in rational terms," says an attorney for a journalist whose phone records have been subpoenaed by jim hoft in an ongoing lawsuit in which hoft seeks to prove unite the right was a deep state conspiracy
the journalist whose phone records were subpoenaed by hoft is not even a party to the lawsuit, filed by a witness to the august 12, 2017 attack against alex jones & others who he claims defamed him in publications calling him a deep state agent.
it is... very hard to listen to rational people try to calmly offer legal argument against a delusion.

been thinking a lot lately, for obvious reasons, about the loudest voices in the room about issues like housing & transit.
specifically with housing, the voices missing from the conversation will always be of those most affected - those who've already been priced out of town & those neighbors we'll never have because of the existing "neighborhood character" cultivated by terrible policy.
the longer it goes on, the worse it gets - it's a self perpetuating problem. the loud cries of those who want to protect neighborhood character drown out their neighbors in meetings until they physically push them all the way out of town.

there’s no real bright side to the rising flames of the culture war, but i wonder if this helps more people to be able to see this as merely a progression of what always was: the history we were taught in school has always been politicized, often propaganda.
the only time i ever heard the name emmett till in my k-12 public school education was in gym class. the only black teacher i ever had was my 9th grade PE teacher. that’s how i learned about lynching. none of this is new.
no one taught me that the 1902 VA constitution, which was in place until 1971, was written with the purpose of, according to carter glass "the elimination of every negro who can be gotten rid of, legally, without materially impairing the strength of the white electorate"
