5 years ago today, Dean Evans, a young dairy farmer from Wiltshire, fell, killed in action. It was reported he fell coming to the aid of a Kurdish women fighter who was pinned down in the vicious street to street battles in Manbij which saw some of the most intense battles. RIP.
hand to hand, door to door in the city of Manbij, where all his comrades spoke of his heroic actions in the face of the most barbaric terrorist organisation known to the world, ISIS. He took the 'Nome de Guerre' of Gîvara Rojava in memory of Che Guevara...
& was famous in his 'unit for his fearlessness in the street-to-street battles of Manbij, which was known as one of the worst battles in the struggle against ISIS. Dean was only the 2nd UK international volunteer in the Rojava Revolution to fall, the 1st being Kostas Scurfield.
His heroism is known to many but not to enough. A hero who made strict instructions with his family, legalised in documents that if and when he fell he was to be buried next to his comrades in arms, the Kurds and Arabs of North and East Syria where he lies to this day
In the Kurdish freedom struggle, the Martyrs are known as the highest-ranking officers, even above leaders such as Abdullah Öcalan and we all take a moment tonight to stand up and salute this brave officer, Dean Evans as we remember him today.
And we send all our love and solidarity to all his family, especially his stepfather Steve Howells and his adopted stepmother, Tracy, and all his friends and former comrades on this day.
Our thoughts and love are also with all of the families and loved ones of all of the UK martyrs who fell in North-East Syria during these historic times.✌🌹❤️
The picture below is of Peter Holmes, the father of the legendary Jack Holmes who fell on the last days of the military defeat of ISIS in Raqqa, the ISIS Headquarters, visiting the grave of Dean Evans/Gîvara Rojava with one of Jack's closest comrades, Arges in Derik, NE Syria.
