Wha?? Lawmakers are actually claiming they're above the law?

Folks, understand how serious this is. Open meetings and records laws protect your right to know what your government is doing. 1/
Without those laws, legislators could meet behind closed doors without your knowledge, debate and pass laws in secret, with no public input.

A majority party could even decide to pass bills without the knowledge of the opposing party. 2/
Any government body conducts public business and spends public dollars, and open meetings laws are essential to protecting the transparency of the process.

If the courts cannot enforce those laws, it defeats the purpose of co-equal branches of government. 3/
The hypocrisy of asking the courts to rule themselves out of their constitutional role as a check and balance is jaw-dropping.

We're a nation of laws, and those laws apply to all, including lawmakers themselves.
