⚠️ PSA: #COVID19 in vaccinated persons can present as generalized fatigue. If you feel tired or run down for no apparent reason, #WearAMask and go get tested
2/ This is taking off, so I’ll expand this into a short Q&A

Q: What is fatigue in the setting of COVID-19?
A: Not the same as normal feelings of being tired or sleepy— it’s extreme tiredness or feeling ‘wiped out’ that persists despite resting

see: covid.joinzoe.com/post/covid-sym…
3/ Q: How common is fatigue in the setting of COVID-19?
A: 8 in 10 adults with COVID-19 experience fatigue early in the disease, but just because you are fatigued that does NOT automatically mean you have COVID-19. That’s why you need to get tested.

see: covid.joinzoe.com/post/early-cov…
4/ Q: How do symptoms of COVID-19 differ if your are unvaxed vs. partially vaxed vs. fully vaxed?
A: Headache, sore throat, and/or fatigue can occur regardless
🔸unvaxed: fever and/or cough
🔸partially vaxed: runny nose
🔸fully vaxed: *sneezing*

see: covid.joinzoe.com/post/new-top-5…
5/ A lot of the symptom data about COVID-19 comes from the COVID Symptom Study— an international effort started by UK researchers. If you want to contribute data, or learn more about the study, visit: covid.joinzoe.com/us/

Get #vaccinated and #WearAMask indoors/in crowds

Addendum: seeing a lot of folks half-joking about being tired. That’s not what I’m talking about. Please follow the link in this post 👀⤵️

Note also that fatigue alone ≠ COVID, but if you have fatigue + any other symptoms mentioned in the thread or links, you should get tested

Just so we’re all on the same page: the #COVID19 surge in #Missouri will last at least another week…and the situation will deteriorate quickly in #Florida, #Louisiana, and #Oklahoma over the next week or so

Get #vaccinated and #WearAMask
I say this because there are large pockets where #COVID19 case rates have more than doubled in the last 7 days. In addition, there are surrounding areas (“halos”) where the test positivity is rising quickly. It’s behaving like a ripple effect 👀⤵️

If you think #Missouri is struggling with the surge in #COVID19 hospitalizations, just wait until you see what happens in #Louisiana and #Oklahoma in a few weeks

Just so we’re all on the same page: it’s a pandemic of children under 12 and the unmasked persons that transmit the virus
🔥 Fact: #COVID19 test positivity is rising faster among 5 to 11 year-olds than any other age group.

It has climbed by 70% in the last 7 days, and currently stands at 5.8% nationally

🔥 Fact: #COVID19 test positivity is rising among 5 to 11 year-olds in *every* part of the country. This is the *only* age group with an upward trend across the board.

I’ve avoided directly calling out misinformation from Mr. Slavitt for over a year but his latest thread is going to get people hurt. This is a point-by-point rebuttal to false assertions made by Mr. Slavitt, with citations.

My upshot: Get #vaccinated *and* #WearAMask

⚠️ Misleading: “So far those are largely among unvaccinated people”

20% of new cases in LA county are in fully vaccinated persons. Public health officials indicate that they expect that number to increase

⚠️ Misleading: “There are areas of the country where there are low vaccination levels that are experiencing the largest growth in cases?”

#Massachusetts and #Vermont are in the top 5 for most vaccinated and growth case in cases

Olympian in a team sport tested positive for cocaine, the 2 others in the team are allowed to compete.

Let’s discuss.
“The 36-year-old from Victoria said his positive "A" sample result was likely from a "single recreational use of the drug" during a social event and had no connection with his sport”

“Kermond was booted off Australia's Olympics team on Wednesday after a test showed he had taken the drug, effectively dismantling the three-rider team and throwing the other two's fate into the balance.”

@ASlavitt Respectfully, this thread is littered with misinformation. I strongly urge that you brush up on the data.
@ASlavitt I've replied to several tweets in your thread where claims are directly contradicted by data from government sources and major scientific journals

I stopped fact checking about two-thirds of the way through but happy to continue if you'd like to keep downplaying #DeltaVariant
@ASlavitt Since folks here seem to be having a tough time finding these, here’s a sampling of where Mr. Slavitt is demonstrably wrong, and links to the primary data that proves it /1

Future headline: Vaccinated persons may be responsible for the “pandemic of the unvaccinated,” officials say
Meaning: #DeltaVariant is more transmissible because it produces many more copies of itself in a shorter amount of time. Recent studies suggest that viral loads in vaccinated persons are high enough to infect other persons

Upshot: that’s why we need *everyone* to #WearAMask
For anyone looking to dive into the details, check out the methods in this study from the UK
