Prepare yourself for what's to come...

Seriously...

Things are gonna look a little dark in the coming weeks.

Not that you need to panic.

Why?

I'm going to walk you through what you need to know.

#COVID19Colorado

1/
First of all...

Prepare yourself now for the inevitable national news media freakout that's coming.

Because it's coming

Cases are on the rise all over the US. Media outlets more interested in clicks will attempt to capitalize on that.

Don't fall for it.

2/
Yes, rising case counts are concerning.

But it's a story that begs for context...

What kind of context? Welp, look at the UK for example.

UK just went through a BIG case spike. How big? Nearly as big as winter spike

(thanks @nytimes)

3/
But look at what's happened in the UK when it comes to hospitalizations.

Appears to have just peaked... at a MUCH LOWER number than previous winter peak

How much lower?

This peak is 20% of previous

4/
But hold on, you say. Don't hospitalizations lag?

Yes, they do... by a few weeks... but we're already seeing a concrete example that the UK patient peak is just beginning to turn

5/
news.yahoo.com/covid-patients…
To review... in the UK cases SPIKED... big time...

but patient counts didn't...

Why?

Well, you already know the answer to that...

6/
So, if US follows UK path here... yes... a lot of people will get sick... but a lot of people won't end up getting so sick that they end up in hospital

that's the goalpost... has been since the start

BUT... there's one big caveat... (and something you can monitor yourself)

7/
FLORIDA

Yep...

FLORIDA...

Watch what's happening there closely.

Cases are going up...BUT SO ARE HOSPITALIZATIONS

That's not great news.

8/
Why is Florida having such a problem?

Well, vaccination rate isn't great, but it's about middle of the road in the US

(thanks @MayoClinic)

Other states are doing much worse

So, yes, vaccination rate has something to do with this, but it's likely answer is more complicated

9/
But let's compare Florida with Colorado.

Here we are seeing a decent case rise (doubled in about a month and a half)

(still QUITE LOW... see below)

10/
But we have yet to see any substantive rise in hospitalizations.

If it stays this way, we're in ok shape

(Again, not suggesting that COVID infection comes w/o consequence)

11/
Bottom line...

This is why I will be paying close attention to HOSPITALIZATIONS and less attention to CASES

I would recommend you do the same.

I'm telling you... the national news freakout is coming...

Don't get sucked in

12/
You want this upcoming case spike to look like the UK's

(and you don't want it to look like Florida's right now)

Don't let the inevitable CASES ARE RISING freakout get you freaked out.

You should demand context.

Context is key

You can already glean a few things re: Minnesota sh--ting based on the videos that are now widely available.

Things start to go south when federal officer -- hooded -- lunges toward car.

The driver at this point is reversing and wheel is turned toward left.

1/ Image
Right as driver takes car out of reverse... ICE officer appears, unhooded, in front of the car.

Hooded officer still has his hands on the door handle (for what legal reason?)

2/ Image
Let's talk about that officer positioned in front of the car - now no longer in reverse - right in the direction of where the driver intends to go

For years, officers have been warned NOT to position themselves in front of cars

Here's a 06 report sent by feds saying why

“This is what journalists are supposed to do” says DJTjr

Welp. What if I told you that journalists have been doing this kind of work for years?

Why haven’t you seen it? Maybe you haven’t looked

Lemme walk you through some extraordinary coverage you might have missed
🧵 Image
Since I know the guy personally and consider him a good friend…I’ll start here

@AJInvestigates has done extraordinary work for years on widespread Medicaid fraud.

He’s still going. It’s remarkable work. Check it out.

Not too long ago, @ayewolfe won an award I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of.

She exposed a bunch of not-so-great things being done at the highest of levels.

Let's talk about this weekend's raid of a Colorado Springs nightclub -- what we know -- and what we don't

(there's more of the latter and less of the former)

Clearly... the DEA remains very proud of what happened. But there appears to be more to this story.

Here's a pic

1/ Image
Critically, the raid has been widely shared by the current Administration as a success story. And, it might very well be. But it's also NOT CLEAR exactly why it was a success

Why's that? Because as of now, the raid has (sorta) resulted in one criminal case against US soldier

2/ Image
Orona-Rodriguez was one of "approximately 17 active-duty U.S. Army service members" present at the afterhours, "unlawful" nightclub known as Warike.

Curiously, he was NOT arrested the night of the raid. Why? Don't know. He was arrested Wednesday evening -- 3+ days later

You'd think more than 48 hours after the start of the ICE raids in Denver/Aurora we'd know just how many people were detained/taken into custody.

We don't

And that's now the story

Let's talk about it. Two days ago the feds said it was trying to arrest 100 TDA members

1/ Image
Yesterday, we asked ICE how many were detained

Seemed like a simple request. FOX News, after all, had reported 30. Keep in mind, FOX had a reason to know. They had a team embedded with ICE on Wednesday.

Problem is... 30 was NOWHERE near 100

2/
foxnews.com/media/trump-bo…
But what's even more telling is that, as of now, ICE has confirmed that just ONE TDA member was detained Wednesday

1 is quite a bit less than the 100 they wanted

(We also don't know how they concluded there were 100+ TDA targets to begin with)

Let's talk about some of the reporting on the ICE raids that took place in Denver/Aurora yesterday.

There are clearly some inaccuracies circulating online right now

Let's start with this one

It's categorically not true.

(this aired this morning on @FoxNews)

1/ Image
Later this morning, reporter @BillMelugin_ reported what ICE, for some inexplicable reason, has only shared with him (and his crew that was embedded with ICE yesterday)

He reported 30 arrests. Only ONE TDA member

This makes sense based upon what our crews saw yesterday

2/
The low number of arrests has led some to imply that the migrants had to be tipped off...

The embedded Fox crew, for example, seemed to be surprised to see a @9news crew already at a raid location when they arrived in Thornton.

Let's talk about this for a moment

The man accused of murdering two and injuring two others along the 16th St. Mall over the weekend has a complicated past.

One that's already led to some confusion.

I'd like to share what we've learned today about Elijah Caudill, 24, in this THREAD

1/ Image
A few things are clear

Caudill is a convicted felon who has spent time in both state prison system and in various jails since 2021

He was paroled in Aug 23 after a 4.5 months in prison on a THEFT case.

His first arrest as an adult came in 19. For stealing baseball cards

2/ Image
That case was dropped. Things escalated in 2021 when a propety manager told Westminster police Caudill threatened him with a knife before saying, "I will cut your f---ing throat"

Felony menacing charges followed.

So did an 24 months probation.
