Brihadeeswara Mandir 🚩

It is dedicated to Shiva located in South bank of Kaveri river in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

Built by Tamil king Raja Raja Chola.
the temple is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site
The sanctum is at the center of the western square.

It is surrounded by massive walls that are divided into levels by sharply cut sculptures and pilasters providing deep bays and recesses.

Each side of the sanctuary has a bay with iconography.

Meenakshi Amman Mandir🚩


Located in Madurai #TamilNadu

It is dedicated to maa Meenakshi, a form of Parvati and her consort, Sundareshwar, a form of Shiva.

It is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam among 275 temples of bhagwaan Shiva.

It is spread over about 14 acres
It has numerous shrines and mandapas.
Rising up to 170 feet in the air,14 towers of the mandir are adorned by display of around 33,000 sculptures - all accentuated with bright colours

Each is decorated with ornate patterns and sculptures of gods, goddesses, demons and animals

Each gopuram forms a pyramid shape

Martand Surya Mandir🚩
Relics of glorious history

It is located at Anantnag, Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

It was built by the third ruler of the Karkota Dynasty, Lalitaditya Muktapida, in the 8th century CE.
The Martand temple was built on top of a plateau from where one can view whole of the Kashmir Valley.
At one time this temple was a symbol of grand artistic style but now only ruins remain.

The Vishvanatha Temple is in  Madhya Pradesh.
It is located among the western group of Khajuraho Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The temple is dedicated to Shiva, who is also known as "Vishvanatha" meaning "Lord of the Universe".

The temple is built by the  Chandela king Dhanga. Dhanga constructed a magnificent Shiva temple with two lingas (symbols of Shiva).
One linga – Marakateshvara  ("Emerald Lord") – was made of emerald.
The other linga – Pramathanatha ("Lord of Pramathas") – was made of stone.
It designed as a panchayatana  complex, which comprises one main shrine surrounded by four smaller subsidiary shrines.
It features several sculptures of various deities, surasundaris, couples making love & mythical creatures.
The main shrine is an example of the nagara style.
