1. Former shuttler Lee Chong Wei says he does not want to name and shame the person who tried to fix the 2006 Doha Asian Games semi-final match between him and Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat.

Taufik recently revealed he was approached by a Malaysian team official to throw the match.
2. Taufik in a recent interview alleged that he was offered double the 200 million rupiah that was promised by the Indonesian government to win the competition.

Chong Wei, who was shocked by the revelation, told NST yesterday that he had contacted Taufik over the issue.
3. "Taufik is a dear friend, so I quickly got in touch with him. He told me what happened. Thankfully for people like Taufik and me, national pride always comes first.

"I know who the person is, but it's been so long since this took place. I believe we should move on," he adds.
4. Chong Wei also admits he had been approached in the past by bookies to fix matches, but had never gotten involved.

"My country always comes first. That is why I stayed away from it," says the three-time Olympic silver medalist.
5. Taufik also did not want to reveal the identity of the team official, who was a former national player, according to the NST.

At the 2006 Asian Games, Taufik defeated Chong Wei 21-16, 21-18 in the last four, and went on to subdue China's Lin Dan 21-15, 22-20 in the final.

There was no bullying incident at Lahad Datu Hospital that led to the death of pathologist Dr Tay Yien Yaa, said an Independent Task Force.

It found that she was stressed due to her workload, although the tasks were still within her job scope.

Tay allegedly died by suicide last Sept, with her family claiming mistreatment.

🧵1Image
"Kita dapati tugasan yang dilakukan mendiang seperti mana ditetapkan dalam senarai tugas. Tidak ada satu-satunya yang kita dapati di luar skop atau bidang tugas.

"Selaku Timbalan Ketua Jabatan, Tay juga menguruskan perolehan, isu penjagaan stor dan sebagainya," it said.

🧵2
Regarding claims that the HOD mistreated Tay, the task force said it found no evidence of such behavior.

Interviews with her colleagues and subordinates confirmed a professional work environment, with no reports of conflict or bullying.

Chief Justice Tengku Maimun said there is a need to correct misunderstandings about Islam, even among Muslims.

The top judge cited M Indira Gandhi's case, clarifying there is no basis in Islam to deprive her of her children, attributing the issue to state and federal overlaps.

Tengku Maimun said despite the civil court granting custody to the mother, conflicting orders issued by the Shariah court complicated the process.

Faced with the conflicting orders, the mother then sought a judicial review, requesting police assistance to reunite her with her children.

🧵2
"I was then told that when I decided on cases, I did not uphold Islamic principles or protect Islam.

"However, when I asked which principles of Islam we must uphold, I received no reply.

"This has nothing to do with Islamic principles. It is a plain principle of justice that a mother should not be deprived of her children, and vice versa," she asserted.

Khazanah Research Institute says rising house prices in Malaysia are influenced by extended mortgage repayment periods rather than actual property values.

Longer tenures create an illusion of affordability, driven by innovative financing methods.

Theebalakshmi Kunasekaran from KRI highlights that unaffordable homes aren't just a wage issue.

She adds wage increments, even with minimum wage intervention, can't keep up with rapid house price escalation.

🧵2
Theebalakshmi said between 2012-2014, median house prices grew at 23% CAGR, reaching RM270,000, while household incomes grew at less than half that rate.

This affordability gap continues to widen as incomes fail to match house price growth.

The senior police officer who rammed into 17-year-old Zaharif Affendi Zamrie with his car last year, was travelling at 90.9kph at the time of the collision.

The Ipoh High Court was told that data from the vehicle’s ABS and stability control systems showed the brake pedal was not pressed, with the accelerator at maximum during the incident.

🧵1Image
“The steering angle was at -2.5 degrees. The accelerator was at a maximum, causing the brake assist to not operate due to the acceleration.

“If the driver in this case suddenly applied the brakes, the ABS data would have been recorded,” a Perodua technical assistant said.

🧵2
He added that the pre-collision brake alerts the driver of a potential vehicle or pedestrian in front, while brake assist activates if a collision is imminent.

However, brake assist is disabled if the driver overrides the system by swerving, braking, or accelerating.

A new analysis of acne creams and cleansers found that dozens of products, including popular brands like Proactiv and Clearasil, contain chemical linked to cancer.

Researchers tested over 100 benzoyl peroxide products and found ⅓ were contaminated with high levels of benzene.

🧵1Image
The analysis found Proactiv contained 18 times the amount of benzene allowed in US drugs, while a CVS brand face wash had 13 times the US FDA's safety limit.

The findings support an earlier controversial study, increasing pressure on the FDA to address the products' safety.

🧵2
“The results presented here suggest that a substantial portion of the BPO acne treatment market currently contains unacceptably high levels of benzene in products sitting on the shelf,” the study by Valisure wrote.

The issue was initially uncovered in another earlier analysis, prompting the lab to file a petition with the FDA to recall those it had found with high levels of benzene.

Fugitive Jho Low reportedly transferred US$406,000 to Kim Kardashian and her former partner Kris Humphries, while Pharrell Williams received US$2,025,000.

These payments were made using funds from 1MDB through his shell company, Good Star Ltd, a witness testified today.

🧵1

According to financial fraud investigator Richard Templeman, Low misappropriated US$1.03 billion from 1MDB's JV with PetroSaudi Limited and transferred the funds to Good Star.

"These were used for the personal benefit of the co-conspirators and their associates."

🧵2
Good Star remitted US$13.5 million to a Riyad Bank account under the names of Prince Faisal and Prince Saud in two tranches: US$12 million and US$1.5 million.

"After receiving the US$12 million, US$10 million was transferred from the Al-Saud account to Najib Razak."
