If anything, Savarkar was just a shady character who pushed others to do his dirty work. Apart from Gandhi’s assassination,he was involved in a Bombs case and three murder cases:
1. William Curzon Wyllie
2. Arthur Jackson
3. Ernest Hotson
A #Thread, Read on..
On July1,1909 Madanlal Dhingra shot dead William Curzon Wyllie.
Savarkar gave Dhingra a revolver in the morning that day and told him,”Don’t show me your face if you fail this time.”Dhingra was arrested, tried and hanged for killing Wyllie. Savarkar escaped due to lack of evidence
On July 22, 1931, VB Gogate fired two shots at acting Governor of Bombay Sir Ernest Hotson during his visit to Ferguson College, Pune. But Hotson survived miraculously. Gogate was a staunch savarkarite and had met Savarkar days before. Gogate was convicted to 8 years in prison
Evidence of Savarkar’s involvement in both cases surfaced months after his death in 1966 through his biographer. Pushed Dhingra and Gogate to commit the crime, while they got convicted, Savarkar himself escaped unscathed.. very VEER indeed !
Savarkar & his brother Ganesh founded the Abhinav Bharat society which resorted to violent means to achieve its objectives. When Ganesha was arrested with a stockpile of bombs, Savarkar was in London. He too was arrested and deported to Indian to stand trial.
While Savarkar in London, Ganesh got convicted in the bomb case and was sentenced to life imprisonment by Nashik magistrate Arthur Jackson. Jackson was assassinated using a Browning Pistol. 20 of such pistols sent to India from London were traced back to Savarkar
On December 29, 1909 a 17yr old Anant Kanhere shot dead AMT Jackson, district magistrate of Nasik. As a revenge for sentencing Savarkar’s brother Ganesh to jail term. Anant was hanged along with Krishnaji Karve and Vinayak Deshpande.
Savarkar was arrested in London & deported Now this is the most VEEREST thing in his life: while in transit, when the the ship was docked in the port of Marseilles, Savarkar tried to escape and seek asylum in France!French port officials however handed him back to the British LOL
For his role in the assassination of Jackson and the bomb case, Savarkar was sentenced to two life terms. He arrived in Port Blair on July 4, 1911. Within months he started the mercy petition business.. and petitioned the authorities for clemency.
Not got a favourable response, he petitioned again in 1913. Which goes like this: “The Mighty alone can afford to be merciful and therefore where else can the prodigal son return but to the parental doors of the Government?”
In return for clemency , the Veer offered to serve the “government in any capacity” as it thought fit. He declared he no longer believed in violence, justifying his conversion to constitutionalism because of the reforms the British government had introduced.
Historian RC Majumdar quotes Trailokya Nath Chakravarti, an inmate of the Cellular Jail, saying that Savarkar encouraged him and others to go on hunger strike but neither he nor his brother joined it. Even inmates older than Savarkar participated in the strike. #COWARD
Savarkar was a freedom fighter who endorsed revolutionary action as long as he wasn’t required to participate or pay the price ! He was neither a Gandhi nor a Nelson Mandela.. a spineless, narcissistic coward and a lowlife, to say the least !
I absolutely do not buy the theory of Savarkar having no part in Gandhi’s assassination, if Godse did it.. Savarkar was behind the screen. Given Savarkar’s history of pushing other to do the deed and also both Savarkar & Godse were too close to each other..

What @Shefvaidya won’t tell you is, Vinay Damodar Savarkar was convicted for 50 years in the murder of Nashik magistrate Arthur Jackson (explains why he was kept away from the mainland) while Nehru was not a murder case convict and was held in jails of Indian mainland!
Savarkar made a 17 yr old Anant Kanhere to shoot Jackson at his farewell party as previously he ordered the trial of Ganesh Savarkar.. damodar’s brother. Known as Pandit Jackson, he was a Sanskrit scholar & historian sympathetic to Indian cause..
