THREAD
🇨🇳PLA Aisheng ASN-205 UAV Series:
Yesterday, it was published a video of a PLA recconnoisance artillery unit in Tibet using one of the ASN-205 family UAVs. Hence a great opportunity to make a little thread about this family of drones:
2/10
The ASN series was developed by Xian Aisheng Tech. Group. The fixed-wing drones have a conventional design with a mid-wing configuration & are used to support the artillery. Mainly used for PLA Ground Forces. It’s a tactical model mainly used for ISTAR with artillery units.
3/10
In Mid ‘90s, the JWP-01 (ASN-206) was introduced as a multipurpose UAV with 150km and could transmit video and info to the Ground Control Station. It has also been used a “target drone”&decoy (RKL-165) & communications relay. They use a simple pusher engine.
4/10
The next model, JWP-02, (ASN-207), improved range (up to 600km) and was presented in 2009. It can be distinguished from the ASN-207 by its mushroom-shaped receiving antenna. IT has 6-16h endurance & 100kg max payload. Also used as commu. relay (TK-J226).
5/10
The ASN family uses rocket-assisted ejection directly on the chassis of the truck. And it’s recovered using a parachute, which adds tactical & operational mobility to the system.
6/10
KVD001 (similar to JWP002)can be used in ISTAR&communication relay missions between Army Aviation units in the air&the command posts on the ground. It is also capable of directly communicating target information&illuminating targets for attack helicopters, like the CAIC Z-10
7/10
One of these drones (No. 01-119) was used by the PLA 71st Army Group to guide a helicopter to conduct Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) strike at sea during a live-fire drill on Nov 2020. staging.taktikz.com/chinese-army-a…
8/10
One of the latest versions, the BZK-006, can also carry 4 Chinese UAV mini missiles air-to-surface. The DCK-600 is the unarmed ISTAR version of the BZK-006.
9/10
The last version is the Silver Eagle, a derivative of ASN-209 UAV. It is not only in used by the Chinese PLA, but also by the Egyptian Armed Forces. In fact, they claimed to have started local production if the drone.
10/10
The early models used direct data link, although the latest models can use satellite communications, inertial guidance&GPS. They could also carry synthetic aperture radars, communication relay devices, EO, target indicators, basic EW & civil climate monitoring sensors.

1/6🧵 CCTV published an urban warfare exercise clip.
The clip was extremely short (10-12sec) so very limited content to observe.
They were🇨🇳PLAGF units from the Central Theater Command.
There were some interesting trends:
-The exercise included some semi-demolished buildings...
2/6 ... for first time, although general rubble was still missing.
-It involved a number of armoured vehicles (probably a Company or two) of ZBD-04A IFV with anti-UAV cope cages with no UAVs involved.
-Dismounted infantry with plenty of support weapon systems (such as rocket...
3/6 ...launchers) collaborated with the armoured vehicles.
-They seemed to train not only the assault & defend of the urban area, but also the approach of the town (which is blocked by rubble, forcing them to look for an alternative route).
-Some individual obstacles could be...
THREAD 1/13 In mid-January 2024, I was invited by the @ukinspain & @DefenceHQ to a British training camp where the Ukrainian soldiers were trained. Here is the full article. For those without much time/subscription, here are some bullet points: revistaejercitos.com/en/articulos/l…
2/13 Ukraine needs troops, but they cannot train at their ideal pace. Attrition is high and their training camps are already overstretched. The content is also critical. The UK is helping through Operation Interflex, which provides with trench & urban warfare training.
3/13 The idea is to train troops to a basic level, but prepare them for the threads and environments they will find. It includes a lot of tactical training, but also in other aspects. 'Inoculation' is a key aspect, trying to replicate the physicological shock of the battlefield..
1/4 First operational shots of what seems to be the large high-subsonic JY260 target UAVs (ID #24-066 & 24-064) during an exercise launched from the🇨🇳PLAN Type 071 Changbai Shan (989) amphibious transport dock. Supposed to simulate 3rd&4th-gen fighter & cruise missiles...

It has wing tips similar to the WJ-500 target UAV.

On 06/07/2023 CCTV, 砺剑dedicated a 26min episode to the 122mm PHL-11/SR-4 medium-range Multiple Launch Rocket System.
The episode was focused on a 🇨🇳PLAGF 71st Group Army Synthetic Brigade in the Eastern TC.
2/28
The episode showed a Company-based salvo training live ammunition indirect shooting drill.
The Company unit was formed by 4 vehicles. Each vehicle was manned by 3 individuals. However, during the video, a full Battalion, formed by 11 vehicles (plus a C&C one), was seen.
3/28
All the Battalion could be seen moving into position and splitting into Companies. The Companies were deployed in position to train different target engagement methods.
