1/ 🧵 Yesterday, Erin O’Toole tried to mislead Canadians about his plan to rip up the Liberal ban on assault weapons and repeal mandatory background checks (C-71), it is time to lay out the facts:
⬇️
2/ O’Toole is beholden to the American-style gun lobby here in Canada. They won him his leadership, as Conservative candidate Michelle Rempel Garner pointed out, and have been actively campaigning for the Conservatives.
3/ While Erin O’Toole refuses to give a straight answer to questions from the media on his plan to bring Canada backwards, the gun lobby knows he will deliver for them.
4/ The National Firearms Association Ontario Director, Rick Igercich, has been campaigning for O’Toole’s candidate Leslyn Lewis.
5/ The National Firearms Association Atlantic Director, Donald Felthham, has been campaigning for O’Toole’s candidate Steve Hodder in Newfoundland.
6/ The National Firearms Association Alberta Director, Dwayne Gorniak, has been campaigning for O’Toole’s candidate Shannon Stubbs.
7/ The National Firearms Association Ontario Director, Jordan Vandenhoff, has been campaigning for O’Toole’s candidate Graham Speck in Niagara Centre.
8/ The gun lobby brags about sending their pamphlets to @PamDamoff's riding of Oakville North-Burlington. They are afraid of strong women like Pam who stand up for the safety of their communities.
9/ The National Firearms Association Ontario Regional Coordinator, Tom Mavin, has been campaigning for O’Toole’s candidate Connie Cody in Cambridge.
10/ No wonder the gun lobby knows Erin O’Toole will keep his promises to them following his damage control efforts this weekend. Here’s what the president of the National Firearms Association said yesterday:
11/ The gun lobby also has direct access at the highest levels to Erin O’Toole. His Campaign Manager, Fred DeLorey, was a lobbyist for the National Firearms Association.
12/ When will Erin O’Toole stop lying and come clean to Canadians?
13/ Will he admit he plans to legalize 1,500 assault-style weapons banned by the Liberal government?
Will he come clean that he will repeal mandatory lifetime background checks by scrapping Bill C-71?
Canadians deserve straight answers.

Lately at Environment Committee, Conservative MPs Blaine Calkins and Dan Mazier have displayed a truly disgusting political weaponization of the Jasper wildfire in an effort to politically profit off of the hardship that Jasper has seen this summer. Names redacted. Thread.
Their misinformation goes beyond the casual lies they spout on a regular basis.
Last week it became public that emergency response personnel--whose acts of heroism have been credited with saving the majority of the Town--have received death threats as the result of Conservative MPs sharing their contact information.
As of today, conversion therapy practices are ILLEGAL in Canada. Our Liberal government's bill to completely ban these practices is now in force.
Despite MPs & senators working together to pass the bill, Conservative MPs now say they oppose its quick passage & want to weaken it.
What's clear is that Erin O'Toole wanted the bill to pass quickly without debate - he knows how many of his MPs are opposed to banning conversion practices.
Over half of his caucus in the last Parliament voted against the bill, a handful of them didn't get re-elected.
Conservative MPs like Ted Falk, who said he was "deeply disappointed and troubled by the decision to fast-track Bill C-4," & Arnold Viersen, who said he "should have said no." Both sound like they're working on proposals to weaken the complete ban of these heinous practices.
I want to thank Milton’s Muslim communities for inviting me to speak today at Friday Prayers. I’m proud to be a Liberal, a party that has taken concrete action against Islamophobia, and has committed to more focused effort.
1/4
We were the government that:
✅Launched Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy
✅Hosted a National Summit on Islamophobia
✅Provided funding for communities at risk of hate-motivated crime to enhance security at places of worships
But there’s a lot more work to do.
2/4
A re-elected Liberal government will:
➡️Present a National Action Plan on Combating Hate by 2022
➡️Establish a Support Fund for Survivors of Hate-Motivated Crimes to help with uninsured costs
➡️Create a safe haven for those facing religious persecution around the world
What we saw last week in Washington was truly shocking. But we can’t sit up here in Canada and pretend that our country is immune from the racist and hate-filled beliefs that led to these horrifying events. (1/5)
Sadly, some politicians, like Erin O'Toole, fan these flames by engaging with organizations like The Rebel.
In 2019, Mr. O'Toole promised that he’d stopped talking with The Rebel since they aren't "a serious news source." I agree!
So when did he decide they had become one?
This is a pattern for the Conservatives: say one thing and do another.
As Canadians watched extremists storm the U.S. Capitol, Mr. O'Toole talked tough but stayed silent when his Deputy Leader wore a MAGA hat.
