There’s just one more day of work on Sunday 3 October as part of our £22m Arun Valley Line Improvement Project. Please plan ahead and check before you travel at nationalrail.co.uk
Thank you @SouthernRailUK and @TLRailUK passengers for your patience while we’ve delivered this work to improve journeys today and long into the future. Here’s a quick recap of the work we’ve done to improve track, signalling, earthworks and stations on the #ArunValley Line
Our staff worked 80,000 hours on more than 40 miles of railway for a mixture of upgrades and maintenance across 120 different sites from #Arundel to #Crawley and from #Horsham to #Dorking
Track and crossing equipment at the critical #Horsham junction was replaced giving passengers better, more reliable journeys. We also installed a new crossover at Horsham station to improve operational flexibility between Horsham and #ThreeBridges
The embankment at Ockley and cutting at North Stoke tunnel were stabilised to prevent landslips and reduce delays to passengers
We repaired and refurbished some of our railway structures, including Amberley station footbridge, Pulborough station canopies, Timberley Farm Viaduct and Timberley Farm Overbridge
Enabling work took place at Parsonage Road level crossing ahead of its upgrade to a full barrier CCTV crossing in 2022
Platform 2 at Littlehaven station was lengthened to allow 12-cars @TLRailUK trains to stop, open all doors and not overhang at the level crossing. This new infrastructure will also come into use in August 2022
Stations along the Arun Valley Line were refurbished, painted and deep cleaned giving passengers a more pleasant journey experience

UPDATE: Power cables, which feed the third rail that powers trains, were damaged overnight following an incident in Brighton Depot. Engineers are on hand and are working as quickly as possible to try and fix the problems.
A train had hit a buffer stop at low speed at the train depot. The driver is uninjured and the incident is under investigation.
The collision has disrupted power to the depot and some of the adjacent train lines to and from Brighton.
This has resulted in some trains being unable to leave the depot and disruption for services at Brighton station, particularly for journeys to and from stations towards London.
📷 The fire has caused significant damage to both the rails and third rail which provides power to the train.
🔧Our engineers need to replace 50ft of rail & third rail + 11 sleepers.
❌ The railway in this area will be closed both directions until at least early evening
/1
🚆We’re working closely with our colleagues @Se_Railway to keep passengers moving but please expect disruption to services until at least early evening.
🙏 We’re sorry to anyone affected by this and please continue to follow @Se_Railway for the latest travel advice
⚠️ In the early hours of this morning, a train derailed in Plumstead at low speed when it was passing over a set of points, the equipment which allows trains to move between tracks. /1
If you look closely, you can see the train isn't sitting correctly on the rails and became stuck, blocking the North Kent lines in both directions between Charlton and Slade Green. /2
🔧In the last hour or so, our engineering teams have been working on a process to "re-rail" the train - in other words, to lift it from the stuck position and place it back, correctly, on the rails in order to move it forward. /3
❗️ London Victoria is currently closed due to a fire alarm sounding within the station.
⚠️ Trains in the area are being held and cannot currently run to or from the station.
➡️We're working closely with the local emergency services to reopen the station as quickly as we can, but in the meantime, please check with @Se_Railway and @SouthernRailUK for the latest journey information. More info to follow as we have it.
➡️ No sooner than our last tweet and the team on-site have identified the issue and are in the process of resolving it, so we can reopen the station to customers.
🚆Once fully reopened, we'll get trains moving as soon as we can.
⚠️🔥We're really sorry for the disruption to passengers through #Gillingham because of a track fire. We believe the problem is linked to the third rail, the electrified rail which feeds power to trains.
We have engineers on site now looking to get the railway open again ASAP. /1
⚡️It looks like there's damage to an insulator pot, the ceramic gadget that keeps the third rail off the ground. If they are damaged, and the third rail touches the ground, electricity can earth through the pot and cause a fire. /2
For safety reasons, we've had to switch the power off to trains on all platforms at #Gillingham until we can repair the damage. Once again, we're sorry for the disruption. Please keep checking with @Se_Railway for live travel updates. /3
