How to use Instagram DMs to land clients and scale your agency

In 2018, myself and @Bonnchri3 had a podcast called Real Talk University.

We interviewed high level guests like @neilpatel, @TheRealBradLea, @AlexBanayan, @johnleedumas and many others,

And we always got asked…

“How do you book these interviews?!”
The answer, for nearly all of our interviews, was through Instagram DMs.

We’d each find 10 people a day we’d love to have as guests and pitch them on an interview with a cold DM,

And it converted very well for 2 college kids with almost no following.
We realized just how powerful Instagram DMs were,

But how does this relate to landing clients for an agency?

Simple, because the strategy is effective for any offer when it’s done correctly.

Here’s how to leverage Instagram DMs for your own offer:
STEP 1: Define your offer & your target market

This is the first step in any sort of cold outreach.

Get crystal clear on what specific value you provide, and who would benefit most from what you’re offering.

“I help X achieve Y by Z”
STEP 2: Find influencers In Your Market

Once your offer & market are defined, start finding influencers that have an offer similar to yours.

A simple Instagram search for “Facebook ads” will give you dozens of accounts that offer Facebook ads.

Use this for your offer.
Another effective way to do this is with hashtags, searching #facebookads and looking at top posts.

Once you have a handful of accounts picked out, start reaching out to their followers pitching your services.
Start with the accounts leaving likes and comments on the posts, as these people are most active and engaged with the service you offer.

Set a goal to send 10-20 messages a day this way.

Of course, you should reach out using the “one sentence question” scripting strategy.
Pair this one question script with a personalized first line based on their Instagram content, and you’ll have a message that’ll be hard to ignore.
Another very effective way to run outreach this way is by going right after profiles that are in your target market.

If you help Facebook ad agencies get more clients, run the same search in Step 2 and message these profiles directly.
STEP 3: Following Up

Naturally, not everyone is going to get back to you after one message.

A great way to boost replies is to follow up with video or audio messages explaining your services because of how personal they are.
A simple 30 second video introducing yourself and what you’re offering will bring a nice boost in replies.

Once you do get an interested reply, ask the prospect what time works for them and book a slot manually on calendar!
This used to be the extent of our strategy, as there wasn’t an efficient way to scrape emails from Instagram…

Until now.

@SaaSWiz and @blackhatwizardd are dropping, a tool that’ll give you the ability to scrape a list of email contacts from Instagram.
Using Scrapegram, you’ll be able to load up a prospect list into a tool like Skylead and run omnichannel outreach to maximize your touch points to these prospects.

Here’s how to run omnichannel outreach:
Better yet, scraping these emails will allow you to build lookalike audiences to run paid ads towards on top of the omnichannel cold outreach.

With 3 touch points on
- Instagram DMs
- LinkedIn + cold email and
- paid ads,

You’ll be in a great spot to print sales calls.
Sending Instagram DMs takes a bit of legwork,

But combining these 3 outreach strategies together will be a super effective outreach strategy to help land clients and scale your agency,

And it all starts by getting active in the DMs.

How I scaled my agency to 30 active clients in under 6 months by leveraging an ecosystem of offers

When my agency first pivoted to lead generation as a service, we offered a DWY coaching program to help clients set up their own outreach.

The program was priced at $5k,

And we figured it'd be easy to enroll people and teach them how to do cold outreach.
Turns out, it wasn't an easy sell.

Our prospects didn't want to learn lead gen on their own, much less pay $5k for it.

We only closed 2 prospects, and knew it was time for a change...

So we pivoted to a DFY retainer offer.

How I grew my lead generation agency to $46k/mo in just 6 months,

And how you can too

Story time real quick...

Before pivoting to lead generation in February of this year,

My agency's offer looked a lot different.

We used to help coaches turn their knowledge into an online coaching program...

Problem was,

We spent 6 months on this offer and signed 1 client.
My partners and I would spend our day prospecting for clients in Facebook groups and Instagram DMs,

and burned thousands of $$$s on Facebook ads.

Finding coaches with a budget was near impossible,

And the leads from Facebook ads were just as unqualified.

After signing a new client, you should have 2 goals:

- Set clear expectations
- Make a good first impression

Easiest way to do both of these things is with a smooth, detailed onboarding process.

Here's an overview of ours.

As soon as a client signs on with us, they're sent an onboarding email.

In the email, they're prompted to:

1. Fill out an onboarding form
2. Join our private Slack workspace
3. Join our Trello board
4. Schedule their onboarding call on Zoom
1. The New Client Onboarding Form

By having the client fill out an onboarding form, my team and I get insights into:

- Their offer
- Their Ideal Client Profile
- What pain points, motivations, & goals their ICP has
- Relevant case studies and results they've achieved

a step-by-step breakdown of our simple omnichannel outreach sequence that prints calls for us and our clients

We've done outbound prospecting for 2+ years now, and have used every software imaginable...

While tools are great and all, the only two things that matter are:

- your offer
- your targeting

If these things aren't optimized, no software or strategy will save you.
It always comes down to saying the right things to the right people.

Once both your offer and targeting are set, set up this sequence on Skylead and watch the replies pour in.

Let's dive in:

To scale effectively, you need to get specific on the type of clients you sign on.

Here’s a case study on how my agency selected a micro-niche to work with

When we first launched our agency, we had no guidelines for who we were willing to work with…

If a prospect was interested in Pay Per Call lead gen and wanted to sign on with us,

We’d happily send them a contract…
Because of this, we were able to scale rapidly,

Going from a handful of clients to upwards of 20 clients in 2 months.

We figured we were well on our way to $100k revenue months,

Until we got hit with a big reality check…
