SOUTHADKA SRI MAHAGANPATI, (KAR)
#bharatmandir

The mandir is in Belthangadi taluk (Dakshina Kannada dist) and a siddhi kshetra.

Southe means Cucumber and Adka is a vast plain in Kannada.

It is unique because Ganapathi is out in open field without Garbha gudi and structure.
About 800 years back, a nearby mandir was destroyed in war.
The Ganesha murti of this mandir was found by cow herd boys.
They started doing pooja and placed it under a tree.
Everyday they offered Ganesha with tender cucumber as naivedya. (hence the name Sowthadka).
Ganapati graced their dreams and asked them not to build a mandir for him at Southadka so that bhaktas could always access him.

Avalakki panchakajjaya seva (a mixture of beaten rice, jiggery, til, coconut, honey and banana) is very famous here.
The laddu prasad is also famous.
Among the special poojas that are performed, Moodappa Seve is prominent which involves covering the Mahaganapati murti with Appam.
Appam are prepared daily and available on counters.

The mandir is decorated with lots of Bells offered by bhaktas who come with special wishes.

PARIVARTANI/ PARSHVA EKADASHI: TOMORROW

This Ekadashi falls during the ‘Chaturmas’ period.
It is believed that during this period Sri Vishnu takes rest and shifts his sleeping position to the right side from the left side.
Hence it is known as Parsva Parivartini Ekadashi. Image
On this day, Sri Vishnu took the Vamana avtaar.
When Bali, King of Danavas, overthrew Indra, he sought Sri Vishnu’s help.
Prabhu visited him as a vamana (dwarf) when he was doing yagna and asked Bali for three steps of land.
When Bali agreed, Prabhu appeared in a giant form. Image
He measured swarglok with his first step, entire earth with the second step leaving no space for the next step.
To fulfil his promise, Bali offered his head for the third step.
Pleased by Bali's extreme devotion, Sri Vishnu promised to live alongside the king. Image

HALASARU (ULSOOR) SOMESHWARA, BENGALURU (Kar)
#bharatmandir

Dedicated to Shiva, the mandir is the oldest in Bengaluru.
The shivlinga here is believed to be the one worshipped by Rishi Mandavya and the area was known as Mandavya- kshetra. Image
It is said that KempeGowda, while on a hunt accidentally rode to a far away place from his capital Yalahanka and rested under a tree. While he slept, he dreamt about Someshwara asking him to construct a mandir using the treasure buried underground and he did as suggested. Image
Another legend says that instead of Kempe Gowda, it was king of Yalahanka Jayappa Gowda who had a similar dream of an old man telling him that there was a Shiva Linga buried underneath and a mandir had to be built dedicating it to Shiva. ImageImage

Image
ImageImage
ImageImage

Here, pooja is offered to Subramanya merged with serpent king Vasuki.
This is the ultimate solace for salvation from any naga dosha. Thousands of bhaktas come for Sarpa Samskara, Nagapratishta, Ashlesha Bali.
The sanctum has the murti of Subramanya on upper pedestal, then Vasuki and little lower is the murti of Shesha.
Subramanya came here after killing Taraka, Shoorapadmasura and others in a war. He washed his Vel in the river. From then the river is famous as Kumaradhara.
Later, he married Devasena, the daughter of Indra.
Vasuki took refuge in Kukke Subramanya while being hunted by Garuda, vehicle of Sri Vishnu. Vasuki prayed to Subramanya to stay along with him permanently at this place and so Subramanya has spiritual presence in this shrine.
