they weren’t hyping the book when they said it was a radical reimagining of world history! i feel so silly reading parts of this book as they take very logical steps from what we know about humans to patiently dismiss bullshit narratives abt the state’s origins to agriculture
and the pieces we silently assumed to be true even as leftists pushing back against histories centering the dominance of the West
I think I will finish tomorrow then reread when I go on my trip

Just realized I’ve been eating and cooking w duck eggs not chicken eggs for weeks
Is there any difference? Probably not!
My “I didn’t realize they were duck eggs for weeks” tweet is raising a lot of questions answred by my “I didn’t realize they were duck eggs for weeks” tweet
After spending a few years wading through all sorts of bullshit concerning the "gig economy," I've put together a glossary of sorts: a guide aimed at translating key buzzwords, phrases, and ideas regularly deployed to legitimize and normalize gig work. vice.com/en/article/pkb…
The inspiration for this was @_KarenHao's great glossary that decoded how Big Tech talked about AI ethics. There's a lot of propaganda we carry around because gig firms were so successful in their first decade of PR, but step by step we can purge it all! technologyreview.com/2021/04/13/102…
Over the next year hoping to report more on aspects of the “gig economy” that don’t seem to be considered much outside of the academy/law but are incredibly important like antitrust Qs raised by @Econ_Marshall & @sanjuktampaul or the racial politics mapped out by @veenadubal
Apartheid is bad except in the United States and Israel, where it’s actually incredibly complex, nuanced, and is not simply rooted in the fact they are incredibly racist settler colony societies
Incredibly low-energy. Most words are fake until they’re not, imagine getting mad about this
There is a very rich debate about translation in all sorts of disciplines featuring all sorts of arguments concerning what it is, what it isn’t, what you’re ethically allowed to do, etc. This is somehow the least interesting version of the worst ones.
