I used to train police on how to respond to DV calls. This was NOT how it should be done. Gabby Petito deserved response from a female officer trained to read between the lines. And the fake respect she was treated with would sadly not have even been given to Black & Brown girls.
There are women like Gabby Petito being hurt in your town. There are BIPOC women being hurt in your town. How amazing would it be if all the internet sleuths that tried to find her, could turn their energy toward learning the signs of DV & protecting them BEFORE they disappear?
Hold the Brian Laundrie’s of your own town/school accountable. Raise your boys to understand & value consent. Teach them empathy & anger management & call out their privilege & power. Demand educated & anti-racist DV departments in your PD. This isn’t True Crime, it’s real life.
