In 2019 @NHSGGC told us that no young people below the age of 18 under the care of Sandyford Gender Identity Clinic @SandyfordNHSGGC were referred for surgeries.
It later came to light that this was not true. The previous year, according to a publication in a child mental health journal, a 16 yo had been referred, accepted, and was on the waiting list for a double mastectomy.
Not willing to wait the few months, the surgery was arranged privately. Despite the surgeon's reservations about the patient's young age, viewing them as an adolescent and not an adult, the surgery proceeded after consultation with staff at Sandyford.
So even when surgery is conducted privately, Sandyford's presence is not benign. And a subsequent FoI confirmed that other physically healthy 16 year olds have been referred for mastectomies.
The SNHS treatment protocol (following WPATH) shockingly encourages mastectomies "early in their pathway so as not to perpetuate respiratory and other problems caused by wearing binders" and even has provision for the operation <16 years old.
We question the validity of "gender affirming" surgery on children and are gravely concerned that a lowering of the age for a GRC will lead to more teenagers seeking irreversible "treatment" to match their legal identity.
These are the formative years when the brain and body are still developing. Teenagers should be experimenting with their identity and not locked into irreversible procedures and lifelong medical patients.
The number of young people with significant regrets & who detransition continues to rise. @ScotGov & NHS ignore this at their peril, esp when it's well established that vast majority of children are happy with their sex if allowed to grow up without affirmation and medicalisation
As @DSanderson_85 states, trans groups are lobbying hard for surgeries to be available in Scotland with "timely" and early medical interventions and surgery. The SNP manifesto promised additional funding for GIC services, but will it be spent wisely?

FWS "accused the Scottish NHS of attempting to cover up the extent of the practice, after it initially claimed no-one under 18 had been approved"

We discovered @NHSScotland is already referring 16 year olds to England for unnecessary double mastectomies.
"New figures, released under the Freedom of Information Act, show there have been at least 51 cases in which trans males, born as females, under 18 have been approved for double mastectomies in Scotland over a six year period to April last year."
"The teenagers are sent to hospitals in England, where they undergo further assessment for “specialist chest reconstruction”. In theory, those as young as 17 can undergo the procedure, and children as young as 16 have “referred for assessment for surgery.”"

Full transcript of the shocking comments from Mridul Wadhwa yesterday.

Including repeating the notion that a movement built by volunteer women needs to "wash and clean" itself of the past female activism./
Wadhwa also repeated the appalling proposition that rape victims need to "learn not to be transphobic".

The job of a rape support service is to support victims. Anyone with knowledge of trauma will know that raped women frequently cannot bear to be near males - even loved ones./
Naturally part of healing is to re-equip them for the world. But in a safe space, telling them they must accept clearly male people as women is mental cruelty.

Wadhwa's agenda could not be clearer and it is not the support of these women./

1. Today the First Minister committed to GRA reform in the first year of Parl. She has failed to answer any of the concerns of her critics and instead committed to one of the most sexist policies ever to be introduced in a programme for government.
#BinTheBill #WomenWontWheesht
2. She claimed to want reassure those concerned about the policy, but unless and until @NicolaSturgeon engages properly with her critics, the well-founded opposition to reform will not go away. If she believes she has a case, she should meet us openly and make it.
3. Once again, she presumes that those opposed to reform operate from a place from misapprehension or ignorance. It is insulting to the intelligence of the women who have worked on this & an indication that she doesn't really trust her own arguments enough to test them publicly.

The gender identity clinic in Scotland is @SandyfordNHSGGC

This was their response to the consultation on the GRA. One might expect some clinical insight from those responsible for the well-being of some of our most troubled children. But no...
It's not a taxing read. One almost wonders if one of the younger children filled it in for them:

"3. Should the minimum age at which a person can apply for legal gender recognition be reduced from 18 to 16?
16 makes sense, given the other rights 16 year olds have."

While @MhairiHunter @FionaSnp & @KarenAdamMSP demonise women, this is what their allies are saying.

Is any of this acceptable to them? ImageImageImageImage
