How to answer one of the most common interview openers: “tell me about yourself” @Inside_TheMatch @futureradres #futureradres #MedStudentTwitter #MedTwitter - a thread 1/
1. Start wherever you want that resonates with you. Want to start with your upbringing? Your medical career? Where you were born? Whatever will help you tell YOUR story. There is no right or wrong as long as everything you say has a purpose. 2/
2. Make sure you tie in your passions. Tell us how you started becoming interested them along the way. Where did you pick up x,y,x skills or projects? Make sure you discuss the things that are exemplified on your app. 3/
3. Once you’ve discussed this background, tie it in to your future. Where do you see yourself? How did your past experiences shape this? Talk about your goals (even if you’re not 100% sure! Everyone changes!)
4. Finally, make sure you bring in the program. How will this program help you? Why did you apply? Geography, academic/community setting? How will this program specifically help you achieve your goals?
5. Length: this should ideally be done in about 60 seconds. It’s a HARD question to answer WELL and very few do it. But a good answer will spark conversation naturally and hopefully will fill the rest of your interview time! Yay!
Hope this helped! Save this thread so you can review it before your first interview! Good luck!
