1/ I looked into the Beanie Babies craze a bit deeper and wanted to compare it to the current state of NFTs.

It's something I think people mention without really understanding what they are talking about.

A thread from a 🧙‍♂️👇
2/ Beanie Babies are a line of stuffed toys that were created in the 90s by H. Ty Warner, an American businessman.

They originally sold for approximately $5, went on to sell for thousands, and now you can buy them at a dollar store. ImageImageImage
3/ Beanie Babies accounted for 10% of eBay's sales at one point. And, the craze made Ty Warner one of the richest men in the world at one point with a rough estimate of his net worth at $2.4bn.

Ty Warner pushed the value of BB up simply by introducing a scarcity method.
4/ That's right. Ty Warner made specific Beanie Babies rarer than others by limited their supply. These toys that originally sold for $5 — ended up being bought for thousands of dollars due to demand.
5/ Ty Warner collaborated with McDonald's on one occasion, where they made 100 million toys called teanie babies and sold out in 2 weeks.

"That year, a “USA Weekend poll found that 64% of Americans owned at least one Beanie Baby.”

Read that again.
6/ Ty Warner was printing money at this point. And, demand for Beanie Babies kept rising.

It's said to be the highest Beanie Baby sale on eBay was a $40,000 dinosaur called Steg, the Stegosaurus.
7/ FOMO began at extraordinary levels. It is said that one book sold more than 3 million copies, the book was entirely about Beanie Babies being a long-term hold giving 10-year price predictions.

And then, the beginning of the end.
8/ In January 1999, TW released another series — and for the first time, prices did NOT soar after release. Supply began to eclipse demand. Sales declined by more than 90% in subsequent years.

Here is a famous image of a divorced couple splitting their beanie babies. Image
9/ Warner was an unusual individual. He wasn't liked by his peers and was hated by his employees. He used injections to "maintain" his youth.

In 2013, he was arrested for tax evasion after getting caught with $100M in a secret Swiss bank.
10/ Now, comparing to NFTs:

• Collectibles craze.
• FOMO.
• Long-term "price" predictions.
• It's already started?
11/ Now, some obvious differences:

• NFTs aren't just 1 collectible.
• NFTs aren't just collectibles.
• NFTs aren't printed by 1 individual.
• The market far exceeds the thousand dollar Beanie Babies.
13/ It's silly to say that "non-fungible tokens" are the same as the Beanie Babies craze. Beanie Babies are not art. Beanie Babies were not designed for games.

And then using other obvious statements relating to NFTs being digital compared to Beanie Babies being physical.
14/ NFTs are a crypto thing.

Crypto is unbelievable to many, seeing Bitcoin at $1 example and seeing it go to $50K+ and wondering why it still isn't dropping.

Fyi, if you think Crypto will fail, then this thread might not be for you.
15/ Even using the example of CryptoPunks being Beanie Babies. Differences such as the founders not "printing" more supply like Beanie Babies.

psst - it isn't possible due to it being on the blockchain
16/ FOMO is something that occurs when something goes up in price anyways. And then spread by people who want to maximise their profit. It occurs in basically every market.

Reminder: 99.9% of NFTs ARE going to 0.

Don't pull that trigger on Squash Snake NFTs in hope of profit.
17/ NFTs are a bet on culture. NFTs are a bet on the metaverse. NFTs are verifiable digital ownership.

It's not a single collectible craze. It's going to be much bigger than me, you and even @punk6529 can imagine.

If you are new, read this:

18/ As always, research and DYOR before investing any money. This is a volatile market, and not for the weak.

WAGMI, or WMI - either way, we are still early.

Keep making art, doing degen things, building and it will come to us.

1/ The Timeless are Timeless ⌛️➖

Talking more about the purpose of Timeless inside of @TheTreeverse and why they exist.

A thread from a 🧙‍♂️👇
2/ Timeless is an avatar collectible drop, but will be developed into a brand.

They will be playable characters inside of Treeverse (development has started on the MMORPG) and a marketplace dedicated to them will be created. ImageImageImageImage
3/ There will be no public sale.

If you own a private plot from the official Treeverse collection, you can mint for 0.222 ETH.

If you own an Nftree, you can mint for free.

Each plot/nftree will have a corresponding avatar with it.

im bearish on physical + nfts

we haven’t really found a great way to connect them both, and it destroys a big part of the NFT concept

argue with me
don’t get me wrong:

- NFTs as redeem for physical is cool.
- physicals as bonuses for NFTs is cool.

Not the “backed by NFT/physical”

1/ NFT summer will be 1000x bigger than JPEG summer.

what do i mean? a thread from a 🧙‍♂️👇
2/ JPEG summer is a meme-term anyways, but replace the word "JPEG" with any other media file type like .mp4, .png, .gif... and we are all talking about the same thing.

emphasis on the art and collectibles aspect to NFTs which is definitely the main part of NFTs right now
3/ i am a strong believer in art and collectibles, my lovely JPEGs, and it's probably the fastest way to onboard people into NFTs.

"a digital image sold for this much?"

it's easy to have JPEG summer as a point of discussion

1/ I'm building a Play-To-Earn MMORPG, an insight into what is to come, built from a Metaverse.

The Runescape of Blockchain Games.

A thread, retweet if you are excited 👇
2/ Let me start from the beginning.

As most of you know me, I started as an artist selling Crypto Art and become an investor and founder... all while growing this Twitter through (shitposting?) and some helpful articles.

I am 100% dedicated to the future of NFTs.
3/ I've always had a passion for building, and this is my first (and biggest) project that I founded ~ @TheTreeverse 🌴

It started from an NFT collectibles project; then went on to become a full-blown Metaverse.

Now, read this: loop-news.com/p/announcing-t…

(1) My current thoughts on the NFT market; where I think we are heading over the next few weeks.

A thread from a 🧙‍♂️
(2) So, my previous thread was around April when the market was in a different situation. Sales declined at a rapid pace and the "NFTs are dead" tweets started to rush in.

Here is where we currently are:
(3) I touched on the points of saturation in certain points of the market in the previous thread, exclaiming the room for growth in certain projects was exceptionally small compared to our previous "1st NFT bull market".

Now, we've seen a few things disrupted this month...

1/ Let's explore what an NFT actually is and the markets that blockchain technology will disrupt as time goes along. Drop a retweet if you agree.

A thread from a 🧙‍♂️👇
2/ Credit to @RealAllenHena for above image*

Starting with the basics, understand what an NFT actually is. NFTs are not specifically on one chain. NFTs are also not just an image.

Here is a good explainer article: loop-news.com/p/beginners-gu…
3/ Where does the valuation of specific NFTs come from?

What drives people to pay $X for an "NFT"?

Ownership in the physical world already makes sense for items with utility, things that *belong* to you, it's a human right *to own things*...
