A big issue I see with the average man's style is immaturity.
Baggy jeans, hoodies, ball caps...most guys in their 30s still dress like they're in high school or college...not good.
Here are some quick pointers on how to mature your style without making you look "old"...
First, upgrade your flimsy zip hoodies for luxe options in cashmere or fine wool. Wear these hoodies straight up on their own with your denim jeans and chinos. Go for a nice FITTED look like you see on the right.
Second - your jeans should be dark and fitted. Avoid anything excessively baggy or with stylized back pockets which lean more youthful and trendy.
The one exception here would be something like a pair of Levi's - their back pockets have a design but they are within good taste.
Third - if you're going to wear a ball cap go for a higher end, PLAIN option. The ball cap you see on the right is in a wool/cotton blend with a subtle check pattern (perfect for the fall/winter). This is what a grown man's baseball cap looks like.
Fourth - mesh style sneakers should be tossed in the bin and replaced with full grain leather, leather lined sneakers instead. These will look 100x better with your jeans. Mesh sneakers are better for the gym or your athleisure fits (when you know what you're doing).
Fifth - I get that you are a diehard fan of <insert sportsball team here> but aside from when you're watching the game I recommend sticking to PLAIN t-shirts for casual styling. It's a cleaner, stronger, more mature look.
The sad news is that the immaturity you see with most men's sartorial choices runs much deeper in their lives...it is in fact all pervasive. Men in their 30s today not only LOOK less mature then their fathers/grandfathers when they were the same age but they ARE less mature too.
Dressing like a grown up probably isn't the silver bullet here but it is surely a step in the right direction. When you start dressing like someone who has his shit together you're in essence pulling your own psychology towards maturity and real adulthood.

This is a more modern take on the polo. The zip placket offers a very sleek, contemporary look. Would look especially sharp paired with some neutral slacks and dress footwear.
Your standards shouldn't disappear just because you’re lounging.
I get that comfort is a priority when at home.
Here’s how you can do it without sloppy...👇
Swap the baggy athletic hoodies and logoed tees for a plain, cozy sweatshirt.
French Terry cotton is preferred.
Why?
Because it's comfortable, cozy, hard wearing and will break-in over time. It's also easy to care for as well. Wash in cold water, hang dry.

Love the two tone design on this one, complete with signature "V" insert at the neck. This one is in a midweight fabric as well.
Another great option here is a waffle knit cotton thermal.
Comfortable and just as easy to wear as a sweatshirt. Nice alternative for those living in warmer climates and don't need a heavy sweatshirt but still want something more substantial than a basic tee.
But if you went a little overboard on summer vacation and need to quickly drop some body fat and get back on track, it’s worth looking into a CLASSIC protocol from Lyle McDonald: the Protein Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF).
Here’s how it works...
I should mentioned Lyle first published this protocol in 2005 and then updated it in 2008...keep in mind this is a rapid fat loss plan, it's meant as a short-term kickstart, not a long-term diet.
You're supposed to switch to a more sustainable approach after 10-12 days.
Here's how it works:
✔️You eat a high protein diet – anywhere between 1-2g of protein per pound of body weight per day. Focus here is on LEAN sources - think chicken breast, tuna, shrimp, whey protein, egg whites, non fat Greek yogurt etc.
✔️Supplement with fish oil – 1g of of EPA/DHA is plenty
✔️Take a basic multi vitamin/multimineral supplement
✔️Include some non starchy veggies for fiber and to keep hunger somewhat at bay
I've always maintained that you don’t need deep pockets to look dangerously handsome.
Forget designer labels. What you need is a plan.
Here’s exactly what I’d do to make it happen - step by step...👇
Step 1 - the obvious: get in great shape. This is non-negotiable. The 80/20 of stellar style lies in the condition of your physique.

Step 2 - pick up a handful of inexpensive, PLAIN Supima or Pima cotton tees.
H&M's premium lines makes a great, 100% Pima cotton tee that is on sale right now for $15 (affiliate): bit.ly/4jRxQ7j
Why Supima or Pima cotton? Because it's the highest quality cotton you can get your hands on (other than Sea Island cotton). It's an extra long staple fiber known for its softness, durability, superior drape and color retention properties.
Hit these numbers, and any plain T-shirt will look ELITE on you.
Step 2: Get LEAN
Most guys don’t struggle with not enough muscle—they struggle with too much body fat.
That means cutting down until you hit that 8-10” drop.
Fat loss is SIMPLE:
✔ Eat in a calorie deficit (burn more than you consume)
✔ Prioritize whole & minimally processed foods
✔ Get enough protein (1g per lb of ideal body weight)
✔ Hit your fiber & healthy fats (10-14 grams of fiber per 1000 calories consumed, and keep saturated fat intake below 10% of your total calories)
✔ Stay consistent
