It takes generations of social capital to build a functional society.

Social capital resides in people, not structures.

Some people have negative social capital, and where those people gather, society runs a deficit or goes bankrupt.

Latest plastics news from my wire:

Mainland China:

Formosa Plastics: Multiple PVC and engineering plastic lines shut.

Overall Chinese ethylene output estimated down 12–18% regionally.

Zhejiang & Jiangsu (Sinopec Zhenhai, private giants): PET bottle-grade resin plants (critical for packaging) at ~30% utilization; three major units fully idled since March 8.

ABS and polystyrene complexes in Ningbo curtailed.

Shandong province (Sinopec Qilu, privately-owned crackers in Zibo/Dongying): At least 8 major naphtha crackers operating at 40–55% or temporary full shutdowns (cumulative ~2.5 million tonnes offline).

Several PP and PE lines halted due to imported naphtha shortages.
