/n A tale of music, digital technology, wellbeing and hope in the pandemic: a thread about children and adolescent choral singers ...
/n When the first English lockdown happened, many cathedrals & parish churches furloughed musical staff – choirs across the land were essentially disbanded.
/n @StWulframs Dr Tim Williams @DrTimRWilliams was not furloughed. He leapt into action setting up zoom rehearsals and learning about remote digital recording/editing.
/n As a consequence @DrTimRWilliams actions @StWulframs choir was one of two choirs that put out virtual or digital output for the first evensong in March after lockdown.
/nDuring subsequent weeks and lockdown restrictions each choir member (age range 7-80+) recorded their contribution & sent to Tim for inclusion in the virtual choir .. some recorded multiple parts.
/n The output was diverse and prolific. Head boy chorister recorded the iconic Stanford in G solo from his dining room at home soundcloud.com/tim-williams-1…
/n Choir rehearsals and socials continued on zoom. With the usual hilarity of screen bombing by pets, partners and children.
/n Week after week the choir adapted. Sometimes just the adults could sing in person, sometimes just the children. Adult altos got to sing soprano, a lot 😍
/n For many children - @StWulframs choir (whether virtual on zoom/digital recordings) was the ONE thing that kept going when everything else in their lives stopped. (This was also true for some adult members.)
/n For some it was a big factor in protecting their mental wellbeing during lockdowns and restrictions.
/n The prolific output and novel experimentation with hybrid methods (mixing live and recorded contributions) caught the eye of singing supergroup @TheGesualdoSix & @owainpark
/n This led to a special collaboration between @TheGesualdoSix & @StWulframs choir - first via online workshops and then with in person sessions in the church
/n The culmination of the workshops was a recording session with the @StWulframs Youth Choir - an utterly sublime rendition of Libera Nos II by John Sheppard
/n Now the @StWulframs youth choir and some of the senior choristers (as young as 10) are performing in a LIVE CONCERT with the @TheGesualdoSix THIS FRIDAY!!
/n If you live in the EMids/Lincs please come and support these amazing young people. I can promise you there will not be a dry eye in the house when you hear them

/n Disclaimer: I have been a massive #FanGirl of the @TheGesualdoSix for years. I have honestly never heard such a warm, all encompassing sound from a vocal group. Ever. They are also really lovely people.
