We’ve got cargo ships sitting 17 miles offshore, waiting nine days each for access to the port of Savannah.

bit.ly/3v4z9XA
The backlogs and delays in international shipping are so severe that a supply chain consultant told the Wall Street Journal this weekend, “If it wasn’t on the water four weeks ago, it’s not going to be here for Christmas.”

The U.S. has 10.9 million unfilled jobs, another record, while the workforce participation rate drags, particularly among women, despite the reopening of the nation’s schools.

Gas prices are skyrocketing. Grocery prices are skyrocketing. In the words of CNN, “America’s economic recovery has hit a roadblock.” And the total U.S. public debt has reached $28.4 trillion.

If you look at the state of the country, there’s only one fitting reaction that comes to mind.

“Let’s go, Brandon.”

bit.ly/3v4z9XA
If you’re looking for a laugh amidst all the bad news, there’s the remarkable phenomenon of Joe Biden fans stumbling around in shock that things are going so poorly.

bit.ly/3v4z9XA
Politico offers a headline that is a quote from Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg, “The president’s decline is alarming.” (No, that’s not a reference to Biden’s mental abilities or memory.)

bit.ly/3v4z9XA
“People don’t feel like their lives have been improved. They did sort of feel that promises aren’t being kept.”

Joe Biden isn’t keeping his promises? Who could have seen that coming?

bit.ly/3v4z9XA
Allow me to remind you that in June 2019, Biden pledged that, “I’ve worked so hard in my career that, I promise you, if I’m elected president, you’re going to see the single most important thing that changes America: We’re going to cure cancer.”

Also in today’s Morning Jolt, conspiracy theories flourish when someone in authority puts out a false explanation that is quickly contradicted or debunked.

So why did Southwest Airlines put out a statement saying the weekend’s delays were partially an air-traffic-control issue, when the Federal Aviation Administration declared, “No FAA air traffic staffing shortages have been reported since Friday”?

bit.ly/3DwKeDQ
If it’s “weather," why are other airlines not being affected as much? On Sunday, Southwest canceled 1,124 flights, while American canceled 167, Spirit canceled 34, Mesa canceled 31, United canceled ten, Alaska canceled four, and Delta canceled three.

From the COVID-19 investigation to the Uyghurs to Hong Kong to trade to Taiwan to pressuring Big Tech, China is pressing its advantage, and the Biden Administration is struggling to come up with an effective response.

It recalls Joe Biden’s May 2019 declaration, "China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man… They’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.”

It is extremely difficult to emerge victorious in a conflict when you are afraid of the conflict and your opponent is not.

There are some people who get breakthrough infections of COVID-19 and who quickly grow convinced that either it’s a moral or judgment failing on their part or that someone else recklessly infected them.

bit.ly/2WShg1C
As one woman who found herself infected after a trip to Disneyland described to NPR, “I did start crying, because it was like, we did everything right.”

A Maine couple that caught the virus during a trip to California is convinced they caught it during lunch with another couple that they characterized as “Covid deniers.” “I let my guard down,” the husband lamented.

I have no real objection to awarding the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov, dissident journalists in the Philippines and Russia, respectively…

bit.ly/3Doks4U
… but wouldn’t the COVID-19 vaccine makers be the most natural choice for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize? Haven’t they done the most good for the most people all around the world in the past year?

bit.ly/3Doks4U
If you’re thinking the world’s vaccine makers would be the natural choice for the Nobel Prize for Medicine… no, this year that prize went to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian…

"San Juan Unified School District officials last week said 41 students were trapped in Afghanistan — a sharp increase from the two-dozen-or-so the district had previously identified.”

"Principal Nate McGill of Ethel I. Baker Elementary school has been involved in getting the students out. He texts with family members and has been coordinating staff members who are trying to cobble together a plan.

But, he said, progress has been slow. Sometimes nonexistent."
Why are we relying on elementary-school principals to help get American citizens out of a country run by hostile extremists? Okay, the point is proven. America really does expect its educators to do too much.

Remember how in early 2019, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz flirted with an independent bid for the presidency, and instantly, the Stephen Colberts of the world started joking about how terrible Starbucks was?

bit.ly/2YoHFVu
Lots of big cultural figures who had never had a second thought about Schultz suddenly had extremely strong opinions about him and concluded that he was terrible and that his company was terrible. If Colbert had told the same joke a month earlier, no one would have understood it.
The only thing Howard Schultz had done wrong was to represent a miniscule potential threat to either complicate or derail the Democrats’ effort to defeat Donald Trump. And for that, he had to be metaphorically destroyed.
