the above website has everything you need to follow the Sign-In with Ethereum standardization process

e.g. just published a draft spec with EIP 4361! we want feedback github.com/ethereum/EIPs/…
the website also has
- what SIWE is

- how to sign-up for future community calls

- videos & notes of past community calls

- early list of projects supporting the standard

- other updates
SIWE has been used throughout web3 for some time but w/o a standard

the EF & ENS teamed up earlier this yr to co-sponsor an RFP/grant and chose SpruceID to lead the standardization effort

goal is to survey current practices, create spec, oauth implementation, js lib by EOY
i'll also mention we're particularly interested in finding a few significant web2 services who can provide feedback on the spec and implementations to make sure it works for them and then commit to be one of the first to implement in production. if that's you, DMs open
more on what SIWE is and why it matters

BREAKING: MetaMask supports ENS websites, the dweb is here! if you have the MetaMask extension in your browser, you can type in a .eth name and if it has a decentralized website it'll load. must put "/" at the end. try it now by entering "vitalik.eth/" and watch the magic 👀👀👀
and this has also been true for years. also Brave and Opera native support! and the eth.link and eth.limo gateways! lots of ways to access the dweb medium.com/the-ethereum-n…
tons that is possible with ENS. check out ens.domains to learn more

ok let's make it a poll, should ENS profiles have a field for specifying auto-play background music (could be https or nft, etc) for your profile, a la MySpace
to be clear, auto-play at highest volume would be required with no mute or pause button
the no mute or pause button would be enforced at the smart-contract level, no wiggling out of it folks

should ENS profiles have a field for specifying auto-play background music for your profile y or n?
this would be a myspace throwback if you're wondering
Im also thinking we should let ppl specify their top 6 fav NFTs or something (separate for avatar and header)

Sept is ending soon, it's another new record for most .eth name registrations

would also love to hit 300 integrations. currently at 289 so need 11 more. can we get 11 dapps to integrate ENS to get us to 300? they might already exist & we just don't have them listed yet
fyi, @DuneAnalytics is where we're getting the stats about sept having the highest number of new .eth registrations dune.xyz/makoto/ens
basic name resolution to a crypto address is easy: docs.ens.domains/dapp-developer…

so is reverse resolution support for using a user's ENS name as their cross-platform username: docs.ens.domains/dapp-developer…

Conventional rhetoric says crypto is a challenge to the US Dollar as the world's default currency

This is wrong. Thus far crypto has had exactly the opposite effect, *massively strengthening* USD

The US govt is squandering this enormous advantage right now

warning long 🧵👇
Side comment to my non-American friends:

I love you & yes this thread will be a bit rah-rah-USA🇺🇸🎇

But note I'm first trying to *describe* what I think are the facts (for good or ill) & then yes prescribe actions for the USG to act more favorably re crypto

The crypto industry has been global from the start. Ppl live all around the world & remote work is the norm

Regulatory uncertainty has unfortunately made the US *not* a nice place for crypto. Many locate elsewhere

(We must fix this: )

And yet...

An ENS feature currently under-used but I expect to be one of the most used long-term is *subdomains*

Sounds boring at first but in fact it's powerful & will be *critical* to on-boarding the world to crypto

here's why, plus a look at new upcoming subdomain features
First, what is a subdomain?

ENS uses the same syntax as DNS: dot-separated, right-to-left

e.g., "test.brantly.eth"
- "eth" is the top-level domain (TLD), owned by a smart-contract
- "brantly" is the 2nd-level domain (2LD) I own
- "test" is a 3LD, often called a *subdomain*
.eth 2LDs have a cost scaled to time registered, $5/yr for most names. This is critical for long-term namespace health.

But there's *no ongoing cost for subdomains*. If you own a 2LD you can create as many subdomains as you want, the only cost is the initial gas to create it
