So like...ok I'm gonna address something I've tried to stay away from. But here we go.
The mistake Michelle Obama/the Dem/independent establishment made as far as "when they go low, we go high" is the exact same mistake I think weve made as far as covid deniers/antivaxxers etc that is perpetuating the pandemic. And I think its incredibly illustrative for both
And its the fundamental belief that there are still hearts and minds to be won, by exposing them to the right information. Which, while true on the margins, I think misses the bigger issues going on in the country and world, which are enabled and exacerbated by social media.
Specifically, "don't call them deplorables!" no. They were, those people where wholly irredeemable, except on the margins, and we as a world and country have paid the price by enabling them. Look at our tattered democracy; it was all predicted/predictable.
"Don't be mean to anti-vaxxers/covid deniers". Nope, by NOT being mean, we enabled them they strengthened their numbers, got new footholds, and the message has grown, not shrunk. Its more entrenched than ever, except now it has an actual political coalition protecting it
Not only protecting it, but passing laws like in Texas, that threaten the progress the sane/rational members of society have made in the past year. Threatening to throw the entire attempt into reverse, and also unwind vaccine progress against mumps and everything else.
And its because social media, the internet, etc allow for the free exchange of ideas. Which is GREAT. When used appropriately, but more importantly, when we remember and enforce societal level safeguards that have kept humanity safe for millennia. Which safe guards? Ill tell ya
Shame. And ostracism. Period. They are evolved HUMAN responses, because we've always had dangerous people in our communities. But only in the internet era are those people platformed instead of shamed into oblivion.
Even worse? Some people, in good faith, now say we SHOULDNT shame and ostracize, and rail against "cancel culture". And look, maybe at times it goes to far, who am i to say. But what I can say, is that in the internet era where "ideas are treated as equals" even tho they shouldnt
be...shame and ostracism and cancel culture, especially before these movements grow in number, is an absolutely critical and essential tool to protecting SOCIETY as a whole. So no, I wont be nice. Being nice was the fucking mistake we keep making. And people are dying
Weve got more information accessible than ever before, yet society is increasingly dumber than ever before, and reverting back to the Thomas Hobbesian "State of Nature" in a way weve never seen before, because bad actors are using this vacuum of information
that exists, specifically because there is TOO much good information, embedded with the bad, for the average human to make sense of it, to tear down the very guard rails of an advanced society. We see it fucking EVERYWHERE.
And its because we dont strangle bad ideas in their infancy, on the internet (excuse the metaphor) when thats exactly what humanity has done as long as its been in existence. So fuck it, bring back shame, bring back ostracism.
Call these people fucking idiots, because sometimes, they are, and by doing so loudly and publicly, it prevents other people from engaging with the disinformation ecosystem, if for no other reason than societal pressure to conform/not be ostracized.
Its been true as long as time that a lie spreads faster than the truth. Well lies are being weaponized, and some of the people railing against "cancel culture" etc are the same people relying on that information vacuum to advance DESPICABLE things. End of rant.
Last thing, 1984 wasnt right, it was Brave New World, that predicted our dystopian future. Give it a read if you havent (I love both books).

Ive said since early this year, the smart CEOs and CFOs and companies that would "Win" this cycle, were the ones that understood paying anything less than $15+ would be a competitive headwind to topline revenues, because you wouldnt be able to stay staffed. Let me find the thread
thread, but I had a better one in 2020 before twitter was a hater and snatched my old account. lol, anyways, amazon out competes at both the front and back end, and its management team is brilliantly smart enough to lean into the dynamic, which exacerbates
the problem. Now you cant compete on price, but also cant keep your supply chain staffed, because amazon has consumed the supply chain workers itself. So its easier for customers to just order on amazon prime, than chance an outage at a store/elsewhere due to supply chain impact

Is there any confirmation that the flight issue with southwest is being caused by a sick out? I’m not saying it’s not, genuinely curious, because at least two other airlines had to cancel thousands of flights in similar fashion this year just by fucking up scheduling
I totally believe it likely is, but no other airline seems to have been impacted this way operationally, and of Southwest let it’s airline be staffed by a bunch of antivaxxers to the extent this happened, and they were massively disadvantaged competitively, versus a United...
Shareholders should be calling for some heads.

Guys I can’t stress this enough, there is not a single data point that shows enhanced UI is keeping people from working. Not a single one. It may, at some point, materialize, but right now the numbers are pointing to a fuck ton of other things.
I’m going to address anecdote on here before doing some actual data, because Twitter loves anecdotes. Those viral posts y’all are seeing on here? Signs in doors? They ALL say, every single one, that people quit. Guess who doesn’t get unemployment? Lol.
Now as for an actual data point, a half a million people reentered the labor force last month. That’s a whole separate number from those who were hired. The number of people who said “I want a job” was up last month.
