ICYMI: Ransomware attacks have slowed three known Midwestern distributors’ operations by hampering their ability to quickly process grain as it comes in.

At least 3 US grain distributors’ systems infected with ransomware in recent weeks
New Cooperative in Iowa
still working to restore automated systems per spox statement

Farmers Cooperative Co., Iowa
employee declined to comment, citing advice from the company’s attorneys.

Crystal Valley in Minnesota
didn’t respond to emails and voicemails.
While grain is a key component to the U.S. food supply chain, its market is large enough that the country won’t see a noticeable effect from slowed production by three distributors
Private files of all three have been published to ransomware hackers’ websites, a common tactic for ransomware hackers to deploy against victims who refuse to pay.
The fact that there have been three known attacks in a short span indicates that the hackers may have broken into a company that manages internet services in the industry or found a vulnerability in software they tend to use
Eric Goldstein, the exec assistant director of CISA, said the attacks weren’t a dedicated assault on the agricultural industry but rather the outcome of opportunistic hackers’ exploiting whatever victims they could.

Why you suddenly need to quit Google Chrome

While Facebook steals the headlines, Google’ alarming new update that hasn’t yet made headlines puts Chrome’s 2.6 billion users at risk of “surveillance, manipulation and abuse.”

Google has ignored security warnings and launched a new Chrome API to detect and report when you’re not actively using your device (idle).

Apple warns:
⚠️“this is an obvious privacy concern”

⚠️it’s “too tempting an opportunity for surveillance.” Image
⚠️“allowing websites to learn when users are active …allows sites to learn sensitive information...very useful to a malicious site (or script) that wanted to learn patterns.” Image

American white supremacist Robert Rundo Is Organizing Fight Clubs Across the US

Believed to be in Europe after being kicked out of Serbia, Rundo has also started a media network with a well-known Russian neo-Nazi.
By ⁦@misstessowenvice.com/en/article/y3d…
Rundo hopes to lure new recruits through the promise of belonging to something.

This isn’t unusual for extremist groups, explained Dr. @milleridriss, author of “Hate in the Homeland,” and director of American University’s Polarization & Extremism Research & Innovation Lab
Experts say there’s reason to be concerned about Rundo’s new strategy. He appears to have learned from some of the mistakes made through the Rise Above Movement (RAM), a WS street-fighting gang he founded in 2016 in SoCal.
