"Getting a Job in Tech: The Game Plan"
Today's space was mainly focused on these things: 1. LinkedIn Profile 2. Portfolio Website 3. GitHub Account 4. Resume
The whole 3hrs of space can be summarized into this: 🧵👇
1️⃣ LinkedIn
- LinkedIn is where all the recruiters hangout.
- It's the place where you can humblebrag.
✅ Heading:
- ❗ REMOVE WORD 'ASPIRING' FROM YOUR TAGLINE ❗
- Put exact languages and skills, recruiters might not know much technical stuff
(Continued Below 👇)
✅ Featured Section:
- ❗ DO NOT PUT YOUR RESUME THERE. ❗
- A most valuable asset of your profile.
- Add Images:
- Goal should be to increase the scrollaility of the profile.
- You can explain projects with a screenshot.
(Continued Below 👇)
✅Projects:
- Develop one big project that you know from the inside out.
- You can discuss the problem statement, solution, approach w/ ease.
- You must know about it better than anyone else competing with you.
- Add your own insights while following a YT tutorial.
CB👇
✅Experience:
- Tell things that you actually did while doing a job instead of job responsibilities.
✅About Me Section:
- Keep it short but sweet.
- It's not an autobiography! add bullet points.
2️⃣ Portfolio
- Design must be good and pleasing.
- Prioritize should be how people would use that website
- Showcase your BEST and VALUABLE work here.
3️⃣ GitHub
- Portfolio decides where recruiters will redirect first.
- Make README attractive.
4️⃣ Resume
✅ The resume in LinkedIn should be working as the back of a book.
✅ Must be in a single column
✅ Talk about ONE project before your experience/education (as talked about earlier)
- It should be unique and big, the todo app won't count.

(Resume continued)
✅ Use URL shorteners:
- URL insights can be analyzed
- People can type it manually
✅ Store your resumes in git:
- Create a private repo if you want but store every version of your resumes that you applied with.
5️⃣ Soft Skills (Misc)
- Soft skills are important but do not give too much extra attention to develop them.
- The best way to develop soft skills is by working with other people.
- Be active in communities, find like-minded people.
6️⃣ Quote-worthy Sentences (by @DThompsonDev himself)
💥 Learn the local demands of your market and you'll never run out of opportunities.
💥 The average human being eats with their eyes, make them hungry!
This is pretty much everything that I found insightful. Once again, I can't thank Danny enough for this wonderful twitter space.
